Penang
- Taiping - PJ Trip
30 Dec 2004 to 3 Jan 2005
Day 3 - 1 Jan 2005 | |||||
Uncle Ooi took us out for dim sum
early in the morning. The food was great, and we ate heartily. Here is a
picture of the Oois. By the way, Mrs Ooi is dad's cousin sister and sister
of Uncle Albert. |

Uncle Albert then showed us around Georgetown and we ended up at Fort Cornwallis.
|
|||||
There were cannons there, and we
really love sitting on cannons. |

Here is a photo of
the tip of Georgetown, near Fort Cornwallis. |

Our next stop was most interesting, from a typical small street, leading to a humble entrance gatehouse, we visited Cannon Square, the location of Khoo Kongsi. |
|||||
This is where the 'club house' of the wealthy and influential Khoo family is located, and since the 1800s.
This is a picture of the building
taken about 1904. |

This is the theatre for
entertainment. |
Highly decorated windows. |

This is the richly detailed main
altar. |

|
|||||
After Khoo Kongsi, Uncle Albert drove us over to Seberang Prai via the Penang Bridge, and brought us to dad's relatives in Taiping.
|
|||||
After a sumptuous dinner with them in the "Lao Fu Zhi" restaurant, we said went to uncle's house before heading to catch the train for Kuala Lumpur. |
|||||
|
|||||
The Taiping train station is really
classic small town style.
