Fun with the Lims
We had a day off for Vesak Day holiday, and we spent the afternoon with the Lims cycling and playing at a playground, after a hearty Dim Sum lunch at Vivocity with them.

We saw the doctor today, and had a scan. Loaded at the end of the page here. Quite confirmed a boy.
Today Joseph had his food fair in school. His class was selling ‘wraps’ with lettuce and ham, and nata-de-coco fruit cocktail drink in rose syrup.
Today, Grace works half day, so YowCH brought the children to Dairy Farm Nature Park for a short 4.0km hike. Click on the photo to get to the page.
YowCH’s project, the NUS Link Bridge won the Building and Construction Authority’s Design and Engineering Safety Excellence Award 2013. The QP, Er. Yong Fen Leong received the prize during the dinner on 16 May 2013 at Resorts World Sentosa. The bridge is curved on plan, and the cantilevered construction over AYE was a huge challenge to design and construction engineering.
YowCH brought the children to the NUS Link Bridge on 18 May 2013 after our morning hiking trip to walk the bridge.
Very nice to roll on the carpet grass of Town Green next to the Education Resource Centre in University Town.
We had a large pomegranate, “石榴”, “buah delima” after dinner. It was about 5 inches (125mm) across and tasted sweet-sour with some bitter aftertaste (like dry wine or grape skin).
The shorter Billy shelves we have for our DVDs are grossly insufficient for the growing collection, so we went over to IKEA today and bought 2 tall Billy shelves with 4 extra planks, all for $198.00.
This was the condition before:
And this is the new:
The whole family helped out (except for Grace, who is at work the whole of today).
1. Joseph cleared the toys from the area.
2. YowCH had to transfer the light switch about 4 inches to the right to be outside the shelf.
3. Esther helped move the shelf into place, note the good fit of the cut-outs for the wall power point and the switch cable.
4. David helped loading up the planks.
As a matter of fact, the assembly was mostly done by the children, YowCH provided guidance and strength. All detailed works are by Esther and David, and Joseph helped bring the tools, parts and gave support.
A final picture to show the cut-outs for the power point and light switch.
Today, David played at Kovan Futsal courts in a tourney of more than six junior clubs and about 4 teams each (for different age groups). His team got Bronze.
Grace did the first trimester scan at KKH on 26 April 2013 but YowCH had urgent serious meetings which cannot be excused and thus missed the scan. We thank God the baby is well, and we have some new ultrasounds posted.
We bought a second-hand Fujifilm F550EXR pocket camera from a Clubsnap guy to replace the workhorse F200EXR which has sensor or electronic failure just recently on 21 April 2013. The F200 was bought on 4 Oct 2009 and in 3.5 years, took about 38000 shots. But we’ll also get a replacement F200, too, as our underwater case is only for this model.
The F550 is not the best thing in the market now, but it comes with GPS, and at release, was selling at $420.00. This second-hand unit is in super good condition, as the previous owner said that it was used only 5 times and took a few hundred photos only.
Well, here it is, pig’s brain soup (猪脑汤), lovingly made by YowCH (big thanks to Grace’s mum for buying the brain and cleaning it).
Ingredients:
1 or 2 pig’s brain, all veins carefully removed.
Slices of ginger.
Vegetable (Chinese mint, spinach, or any other vege for soup)
Pinch of salt.
Dash of sugar.
1 or 2 eggs (as option for those who eat not the delicious brains)
Method (10 mins total):
Boil water, dump in ginger slices and simmer for 2 minutes, add the brains.
When water boils, add vegetables and simmer until vege is soft.
Add salt and sugar to taste, stir and crack eggs into soup.
Boil for 2 minutes, serve while hot.
YowCH has been eating this since young, this is Grace’s second round (first round was some 10-plus years ago in some restaurant in South Bridge Road), Esther likes it (“creamy like durians”), Davids hates it and Joseph is OK.
