Grace’s mom’s 70th birthday at The Scholar

We celebrated Grace’s mon’s 70th birthday (18 Oct) with a very nice and hearty dinner at The Scholar, 15 Oct 2016.

The menu inlcuded Peking Duck, coffee ribs, shark fin soup, abalone and many other good stuff.

Then we took some group photos.

YowCH’s resignation gifts to staff, Odyssey first carwash

YowCH had prepared in advance since August a stack of books as resignation gift to his staff. The book is a nice engineering reading, To Engineer is Human, by Henry Petroski.

We sent the Odyssey to the carwash for the first time on 6 August 2016 (previously only washed by Kah Motors during the 1st servicing).

New phones for David and Grace

With the contracts expired and eligible for handset change, and the old phones were starting to give problems, Grace and David changed phones shortly after Esther did.

David got his iPhoneSE on 4 Oct 2016 to replace his HTC Desire 510. Here’s the iSE with UAG armour case, not seen is the matt surface tampered glass screen protector.

Grace got her Samsung S7 (silver) also on 4 Oct 2016, which is the same model as YowCH’s S7 (black), to replace her S5.

Grace later got herself a transparent red UAG armour case.

YowCH is a good driver

Automobile Association of Singapore conducted an online test and YowCH took it, scoring very high, hence a good driver, earning an extra year of membership for free.

YowCH’s T.Y.Lin farewell dinner

On 29 Sept, YowCH colleagues threw a farewell dinner for him and 3 others collegaues (Kenneth, Yiwei and Fidelino) at Indochili, Zion Road. Nice fellowship and great taasting Indonesian food. Grace and Samuel was also at the dinner.

Samuel using chopsticks, Esther’s iPhone7

Here’s Samuel sharing instant noodles with Joseph for breakfast. He is trying to use the chopsticks but has not fully gotten the correct technique and doesn’t have much strength yet. We will continue to train him.

On Wednesday, 21 Sept, Esther got her new phone, an iPhone7 32GB, rose gold. Here’s the new phone, in a black Spigen case. She bought it partially with her own savings.

Here’s the phone, taking a dip in the swimming pool, it is waterproof.

Swim float board

We borrowed the float board from the coach and had some fun on it after the swimming lessons.

Samuel has VERY good balance standing on the float board!

Soccer at SportsHub Stadium

On 17 Sep 2016, Saturday, we attended the PA Sports event at Sports Hub under West Coast Wolves. We arrived early and roamed the new National Stadium and had breakfast before we played football.

But the soccer pitches (8) were very small because there was a Zumba event taking up more than half the field.

Samuel happily joined the team in their warm-up session.

Here’s a view of the stadium from our seating area.

There were also some fun-items for children like a bouncing castle.

Here are some action shots of David and Joseph.

Mid-autumn fun

Here are some mid-autumn fun photos.

We bought piglets for Joseph and Samuel. Samuel started with biting off the nose…

We also bought a balloon lantern for Samuel (Thomas the Train). The wire broke after 1 night.

Traditional candle lanterns are still the best:

4 Children, but 5 lanterns.

Odyssey mods

The Odyssey doesn’t have many compartments to store small items. We added a small pouch betweent eh driver’s seat and the door for some stationery, tools and knick-knacks. We also bought a new and longer sunscreen, and nice plain steering wheel cover. The key fob original leather case is rather bulky, YowCH sew a simple alternative.

Thanks to the Ngs, we have a narrower and lighter child seat for Samuel. With this model, the middle seat of the third row is able to accommodate a small-sized person, giving us full 7-seats capacity.

The front built-in car camera (parking aid) is fully exposed in the front to road grit. For long distance travel, small stones are likely to scratch the camera. YowCH made a plastic shield for it, which we will apply when we drive long distance on the North-south Highway.

Lastly, we bought some fitted car window shades as the V-kool tinting by Kah Motor is rather light. The set comes with 7 pieces, rear windscreen, third-row windows, back-door windows and front windows. We do not need the back-door shades as the Odyssey comes with retractable shades. With some minor mods to fit better, the rear windscreen and third-row shades are mounted, unlikely to be taken down. The front will be useful for long afternoon drives.

A note on shades and curtains from LTA, referring to From Onemotoring site:

The following requirements must be met when installing sunshades:
a) No part of the sunshades shall be affixed:
• more than 6 inches (150mm) from the top edge of the front windscreen.
• more than 4 inches (100mm) from the top edge of the rear windscreen and side windows.
b) Graphics and words shall not appear in any way pornographic, obscene or vulgar. They also must not be seditious or affront any religious belief.

Curtains can be fitted on the passenger windows of a vehicle as long as the curtains are not drawn while the vehicle is in motion and/or obstruct the view of the driver.
