Distance swim test, Samuel swam 1 lap

Today, 7 September 2017, saw Esther, David and Joseph taking their distance swim test. Grace happened to be on off today and she joined them at the pool, with Samuel, too.

At 10:15am, they were briefed by the coaches/examiners:

At 10:20am, they took off:

Joseph was doing the 1500m (30 laps) test while Esther and David were doing 2000m (40 laps) test, all within 1 hour. They did their 800m and 1500m tests earlier in April 2016. While they were swimming, Grace had fun with Samuel in the pool.

After about an hour, here are the results:

Joseph was swimming breast-stroke along with 2 other boys who are 2 years and 4 years older than him. For 2000m, Esther was the only girl and David was the youngest. Esther took 5 minutes more than the 60 minutes (probably due to lack of practice in both swimming and running) while David completed the fastest (free-style all the way).

Last photo, very tired children after the long swim.

Last Sunday, Samuel swam an entire lap by himself, with no floats, and he did that twice!

Church Teachers’ Day, Soccer, Dinner with Yongs

On Saturday, 26 August, Samuel and Joseph performed 2 songs in church for the Sunday School teachers for Teachers’ Day.

The children performed “You Never Let Go” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Sunday, 27 Aug, West Coast Wolves played friendly games against Choa Chu Kang CSC. YowCH was referee for the under-8 games. Joseph played in under-12 and then the adults played against WCW under-15.

We invited the Yongs over for dinner to celebrate Si Wan’s birthday and we had Western food.

After dinner, the cousins had fun playing with each other.

Abalone game, YowCH driving

We bought a set of ‘China made’ Abalone game (copy of the original):

Rather fun. You can read up at Wikipedia.

YowCH received a letter from Singapore Traffic Police, commending him for his 5 years of good driving (no demerit points)!

Last year, AA gave YowCH 1 year free membership for being a low risk driver.

IKEA shelves for boys’ room, BCG, Saturday activities

Grace was on leave from 14 to 18 Aug, and she managed to reorganize the boys’ room for new shelves. She took Joseph and Samuel to IKEA on 17 and 18 Aug, and bought shelves which the whole family helped in setting up, completing on Saturday, 19 August.

Joseph was the tallest allowable height to enter the IKEA play area, and Samuel at the minimum height.

Firstly, Billy book shelves:

And we made a loft play area under Samuel’s bed:

On Friday night, we had cell-group (BCG) meeting:

And on Saturday, Joseph had a dip with YowCH at Sorrento:

Followed with closing session of term 2 of KFC:

The children rehearsed for Teachers’ Day celebration next week.

Odyssey at 1 year

The Odyssey is now 1 year old, at driven a reasonable 19,200km. YowCH sent the car for servicing at Honda on Friday 18 August, exactly 1 year from the day we got the car.

YowCH’s P5 KFC class

YowCH teaches the P5 class in church every Saturday, under Kids For Christ (KFC) from May to August. This is his class:

KTP durian party, Magnext, Joseph basketball

KTP had a durian party on 8 Aug, prior to the Singapore National Day. The SJ bosses came over, too.

We took the Magnext set out, and Samuel enjoyed building 2D and 3D creations, together with Joseph.

Here are 2 photos taken of Joseph playing basketball with his friend in school, after the official training session.

Movie outing for Esther, David and Joseph

Today is the day after Singapore National Day, and schools are on holiday. This afternoon, Esther, David and Joseph went to Tiong Bahru Plaza to watch a movie by themselves, The Emoji Movie.

Food, swim and Samuel’s Engineer toy

We continued our on-line ordering with Indian food from Brinda’s:

Grace worked night, so she skipped swimming, but here are the rest of us:

Samuel enjoyed the Engineering toy set, so we took out the larger box, and he was absolutely delighted with the increase in building materials!

Here’s a little miscellaneous post: our neighbour, bought a grey Honda Odyssey recently, and his plate is very similar to ours!

Food & drinks, Stick Insects, swim and Samuel’s toys

We often order from food deliveries nowadays, including Food Panda and Deliveroo. Here are some of the food we ordered:
Four Fingers (Korean sticky sauce fried chicken):

Nasi Lemak (Adam Road):

Pastamania:

We sometimes also eat out, like at this Thai restaurant at ARC called Soi Tai, Soi Nice:

Chee Kean helped us get a very nice tea, Xia Yue Gan (小月甘):

Joseph had a school excursion and he bought 2 stick insects, his new pets, Sticky and Woody:

The stick insects eat leaves of guava, jambu air, green beans or hibiscus. We went to Redhill Close to harvest some hibiscus leaves.

Here is a photo taken at our weekly swim:

Grace took out the Engineer set for Samuel, he really enjoyed it.
