120820 Esther’s bicycle-fall injury

Our church organised a family day at East Cost Park on 20 Aug 2012 (public holiday as replacement for Hari Raya Puasa on 19 Aug, Sunday), more info here. We brought our bicycles along for cycling.

At about 9:30am, while Esther was cycling with her friend Hannah, Esther fell from the bike rather accidentally, and injured hereself. Our doctor friend, Lynette helped at the carpark, then drove Grace, Esther and Hannah to KK Hospital A&E:

List of issues:
1. Cut on chin – stitches (the Doctor did very neat and close stitches)
2. Fracture of left little toe – cast
3. Chipped teeth – patching

So Esther is going to be on crutches for about 6 to 8 weeks for the fracture to heal.

KK Hospital did not have dental, so we were actually referred to Singapore General Hospital A&E for the dental treatment. By the time we got home, it was about 5:00pm.

Thank God it wasn’t anything more serious, and that she was strong to bear the pain. We are also very thankful for friends who helped, Lynette and Michelle, Yvonne, Soo Yeong among others.

==========
120821 update: We went to Health Promotion Board students’ dental clinic (as recommeneded by the dentist at SGH) and the dentist repaired the two broken front teeth. However, the repairs are only cosmetic, not strong enough for biting. X-ray was taken again, and the teeth and jaw looked good. Hopefully these two broken teeth doesn’t die.

==========
120822 update: We went with Esther to Great World City’s World of Sports and bought her a pair of sports glove to use on the crutches.

==========
120823 update: YowCH trained Esther in going up and down stairs.

The chin wound is also healing very nicely.

==========
120825 update: Esther went shopping at Untied Square and Vivocity, after sending off grand parents to the train station for their return to PJ after helping look after Esther for 1 week. Crutching can be tiring, but she has strong arms and her good leg is also strong.

The chin wound is progressively looking better.

==========
120826 update: Esther attended Junior Sunday school at church.

You can see that she has no problems going on and off the escalator, too.

The chin is healing very well, thank God.

==========
120827 update: First check-up after 1 week.
We went to Health Promotion Board at 8:15am for 8:30am appointment, and thank God that the two brken teeth are still alive. It is too early to confirm but at least they are still sensitive. Next appointment, 1 month later.

Next we went to KKH at 10:15am for the 11:00am appointment, but waited until about 11:50 to see the doctor. All the wounds are healing well, and the cast on the leg removed. Now only to tape two toes together to provide support for healing.

Next appointment, also 1 month later.

Now, Esther needs to train again to put some weight on the foot (but not the toe) and start walking again. No sports for her until October.

==========
120828 update: Back to school
After the check-up and with one crutch (now that the cast is removed adn she’s on partial load bearing), Esther went back to school on Tuesday, 28 Aug.

==========
120901 update: Healing very well
The wound on the chin has started drying and Esther is now going around without the crutch. Still, she needs to be careful not to cause any damage to the healing of the fracture.

==========
120904 update: Getting boring
These updates are getting boring, but Esther is healing well with the chin wound drying up and the toe fracture having quite negligible pain now. She’s not suppose to exercise, but a little swim (last Sunday, 2 Sept) wouldn’t hurt.

==========
120909 update: Good recovery
The chin scab is dropping off and the skin is healing nicely.

==========
120924 FINAL update: doctor cleared
The chin still has some remaining stitches which were not dissolved into teh body or dropped off, and the docter has cleared the toe fracture but Esther is still of physical exercises until end-October to avoid harm to the bone.

This is the final update, Esther’s bike fall injury story ends.
