110903 Sungei Buloh Trip

We arranged with Samuel’s family (the Lims) for a hike at Sungei Buloh, and pleasantly surprised when Quincy and Jonah decided to join us.

We arrived at 7:45am and started the hike at 8:10am after a prayer by Quincy.

With 5 Yows, 7 Lims and Hwee Leng’s mum, Quincy and Jonah, our group was 15-strong, with 6 adults. We then took Route 1, a gravel path around the pond, round trip of about 3.0km.

At the first shelter, we saw jumping fishes.

The children were very intrigued by very small crabs in the mud.

A very common sight, the biawak (monitor lizard):

Another common animal, the tupai (squirrel):

We arrived at the Aerie at about 9:05am. We stopped for a rest and snacks up on the Aerie.

Jonah (1.5 years old) walked up the stairs all by himself!

We then looped round the pond and completed Route 1 with some group photos:

This is Quincy’s broken shoe (the sole dropped partially) and YowCH’s field repair.

Seeing that Jonah was still high in spirit, Quincy stayed on with us as we continued onwards to the Mangroove Boardwalk of about 0.5km. First sight, a hornbill:

There were clams, crabs, cockles, mudskippers and algae-covered roots:

This is Joseph pretending to be Captain Jack Sparrow:

The group photo at the end of the whole trip of 3.5km:

At the info centre, the children studied the map and our parting sight, another large monitor lizard.

We left the Reserve at 11:15am.

Here’s the map of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve with our routes highlighted:

We thank God for friends, time with family, good weather and fun time enjoying nature.

  1. Great pictures! The shots don’t capture the mosquito bites and my broken shoe (which is good) and capture the memories and footprints (is that how the saying goes?). Praise God for lovely cool weather for this trek.

  2. I’ll add the broken shoe later. I didn’t get any mosquito bites!

  3. Take nothing but memories (or photos), leave nothing but footprints.
