110612 to 17 Church Camp 2011, Penang

For Church Camp 2011 from 13 to 17 June in The Gurney, Penang, we drove to PJ on Sunday morning. To beat the jam at the check point, we started driving at 3:30am on Sunday, 12 June, and reached PJ at 6:30am. The road was empty and very nice to drive, but certain areas had fog.

At PJ home YowCH, Esther and David prepared the plastic pipes for the camp games banners.

On 13 June, we started our drive to Penang at 5:45am.

We reached Ipoh town for dim sum breakfast in Ming Court at about 7:45am, and managed to get a parking lot just in front of the restaurant. The place was filled up by 8:00am!

We reached Penang at 10:45am and drove straight to the hotel, checking in at 11:15am.

That’s the ‘office’ in our room.

The red caps are for the game masters.

The swimming pool has an infinity edge up at Level 7.

Wednesday afternoon was free and easy, most opted for the shopping trip, but we went hiking at Telok Bahang Taman Negara instead. The trail was rather challenging for children, so Joseph stayed in the hotel with Grace.

David drove the boat back to the jetty after the hike.

After hiking we drove out to Gurney Drive hawker centre for dinner.

Thursday morning session:

Here’s the Camp Photo, taken after the sermon.

We had a session of durians, wonderfully good.

After durians, we went swimming again.

Thursday’s dinner was at Corner Club, 2 blocks from the Gurney.

The evening session closed with Communion.

Before the closing session on Friday morning, we completed 90% of our packing the night before.

As usual the children prepared and presented songs for the adults.

Here is a photo of us at checking out of the hotel room.

We left The Gurney at 1:00pm for Fort Cornwallis, catching a simple lunch at the hawker centre next to the Fort.

After church camp, we returned to PJ. The drive was rather good, except for a kerb bump in Penang where the spare tyre rim (hung under the car under the boot, very low) was dented and needed replacement.

We had a 1/2-hour stop in Ipoh Utara for refuel and ice-cream, and reached home at about 7:30pm, jammed traffic only upon leaving the North-South Highway.

We thank God for a good Camp where had fun, rest, fellowship and spiritual refreshment. Dr Rod Wilson’s sermons on brokenness was a timely reminder that we need God.

Forward to Holiday in PJ.
