TYLin’s Beijing Trip Part 2/2
Back to 1/2.
Day 3: 24 Oct 2015:
After breakfast, Groups A and B got on the bus at about 08:00 for Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City tours.
The crowd and queue started from the subway links about 1km from Forbidden City entrance.
This is Mao Tse Tong’s tomb, hundreds of locals are queuing to see his preserved body (rumoured to be wax only).
We managed to get another photo of Group A. But no banners in Tiananmen Square.
Here we enter Forbidden City.
Another group photo.
The palace is very large, but thankfully not too many visitors while we were there.
A glimpse of the Royal Throne.
Here, we have reached the inner residential sections.
Royal bedroom palaces.
There is even a Cyprus garden within the Forbidden City.
We left the site at about noon time through the back gate.
These are some city views near Forbidden City. The number of people and tourists is just amazing!
Our lunch was nearby, Redwall Hotel.
After lunch, we had rickshaw ride through some older part of the city.
After the rickshaw ride, we were brought to Shichahai (lake garden) and we roamed for some snacks and shopping.
We ate donkey meat burger.
Dragon beard candy.
And grilled mutton kebab.
We also bought some souvenirs and a gift for Samuel.
At 17:00, we arrived at Jinsha Theatre for some very fantastic acrobatic shows.
The guy leaped very high and through the hoop.
We called this the ‘hamster wheel’.
Below are 12 girls on one bicycle.
There were 4 motorcycles in the steel ball-cage going around in high-speed at different angles!
We then had a typical dinner. The GRace went next door (and so did many of YowCH’s colleagues) and bought some China-taste seasoning.
We returned to hotel about 20.30 and then we roamed the streets near the hotel, ending with a local massage.
Not forgetting, some more selfies.
And our hat-fashion.
Day 4: 25 Oct 2015:
The last day, started with checking out at 07:30, breakfast and then boarded the bus for Summer Palace.
We entered the rear gate of the Summer Palace to visit the gardens first.
Nice bottom-up view of willows.
There was a band practice.
Some old men were practicing calligraphy with a water brush on the black stone tiles.
This palace is special, it is fully walled up as a prison to the emperor who defied the Dowager Cixi.
Many people here, too.
YowCH bought a flip-around tree-bark hat from a street vendor, fun.
Final tour destination: Water Cube and Bird Nest Stadium, the Olympic main venues.
We didn’t get too near, only saw the structures from a high pedestrian bridge over the main road below.
Lunch was at a restaurant within the former Olympic Village.
We finished lunch at about 12:00 and reached the airport about 12:30. After immigration, we shopped for some final souvenirs.
We boarded early, but due to airport traffic, we took off 30mins late at about 16:05.
We reached Singapore at 22:10, and we were picked up by Gene and dad. Below are the goodies we ought.
After unpacking, we slept at about 01:30.
Thank God for the opportunity to travel, the good weather, safe journey and tour, nice experience, fellowship with YowCH’s colleagues and family, and for mum, dad and Gene in looking after the children. We also managed to return home on time for Samuel’s 2nd birthday!
