TYLin’s Beijing Trip Part 1/2
Forward to 2/2.

YowCH is the Deputy Vice-president of the TYLin Staff Club this year, and also on occasion of our 15th wedding anniversary, we took some time-off from the children to join the company trip to Beijing. The trip was divided into two groups – Group A from 21 to 25 Oct and Group B from 22 to 26 Oct. We were with Group A. The flight left on Wednesday night and we returned on Sunday night. Big thanks to Grace’s parents and sister for looking after the children, running them to school and all their activities.

The last TYLin company trip we went was the Chengdu-Jiuzhaigou trip in 2010.

Day 0: 21 Oct 2015:

We packed rather lightly, and dad drove us to the airport at 21:00 to take the China Airlines flight at 00:30 on 22 Oct 2015.

The flight took off on time.

Day 1: 22 Oct 2015:

The food wasn’t took bad. But being the midnight flight, and for 6 hours, we did not get much sleep.

We landed on time and we were picked up by the local tour guide on our bus for breakfast.

Breakfast was Cantonese-style dim-sum in Beijing!

We saw durians on a street!

And the CCTV building.

First stop was the Temple of Heaven. It was rather cold at about 15°C, and drizzling.

Here’s the nice grand temple building:

Then we were brought to lunch in a Beijing food restaurant.

After lunch, we went to Tiananmen Square, to get to the National Museum of China. Security very tight around Tiananmen – particularly, no matches or lighters.

The National Museum building is very large.

After the museum visit, we went to the Wangfujing Street to try the street food.

We ate Mala tofu, cuttlefish, crayfish, silkworm pupae, jelly/cakes, Buddha-jumps-over-the-wall and Peking duck roll.

We had dinner at a nearby restaurant.

After dinner, we drove by Forbidden City along Chang’an Road and had some nice night-light views.

We reached the Mercure Wanshang hotel at 20:30.

Day 2: 23 Oct 2015:

After the hotel breakfast, we left at 08:00.

We reached Juyongguan to visit a small portion of the Great Wall of China.

This is the Group A official tour photo.

At about the same time, at the Temple of Heaven, Group B took their official tour photo.

We took route with the gentler slope and climbed a distance of 666m.

This is the end of the section. You can see the original wall, which is rather broken.

We bought ourselves 2 keychains with our names etched to commemorate the completion of the 666m.

Upon reaching the gate-house again, Grace rested while YowCH went up a short distance of the steeper side. It was very difficult to climb as the steps were uneven and high.

There were some cannons on the gate-house. WE bought some souvenirs and an ice-cream. It was about 20°C given the nice sun-light.

Lunch was at a nearby town. Grace was happily enjoying the light local beer over lunch.

After lunch, we endured some grand traffic jam, and reached Silk Street for shopping at about 15:00.

By the time we left at 17:30, the moon was up.

Groups A and B had dinner together at a good Peking duck restaurant (this Quanjude has many branches in Beijing and around China)

There, Grace and beer.

On the way back to the hotel, CCTV Tower.

And the workstation in our room.

We took some selfies with our phones, too!

Forward to 2/2.
