150130 to 0201 Trip to PJ, Dad’s 70th birthday, TYLin KL Annual Dinner
We took leave on Friday 30 Jan and arranged with YowCH’s sisters and extended family to have an early Chinese New Year gathering considering that YowCH is attending the TYLin KL office annual dinner on 31 Jan and his cousin, Wei Lian, is back from Taiwan over this week.
150130, Friday:
We drove off at 4:30am with little traffic on the road, and reach Subang at 8:00 to join the morning jam for about 45 minutes. We had breakfast at the neighbourhood Indian mamak restaurant.
Samuel, just having started walking, enjoyed the wide space at the PJ home.
We rested at home for a while.
When the Tans came by, we went out together to One Utama and met the Yongs there for lunch, hair-do for Yan and Loon and shopping. Lunch was at Kluang Station.
In the evening, we had our dinner at Connexion@Nexus, Loon’s workplace. Loon did a very good job in arranging the room and the meal. We started off with taking family photos, YowCH’s favourite photography, and took photos of our families and the group photo with 30 members of the family. Big thanks to Chee Kean who helped with the photo taking.
Then we started a nice Chinese New Year style sit-down dinner, in 3 tables, with Yu Shang.
The last item was the Shou Tao Bao, longevity buns, given that we were also celebrating dad’s 70th birthday.
There was even a cake in Loon’s arrangement. YowCH played the guitar for the birthday song.
The night ended at about 10:30pm.
150131, Saturday
We started Saturday at home, showing dad and mum a photo slide show of the family.
Then the children helped change the cushion covers, a very labourious job made easy with lots of hands.
Here’s mum with her 7 grandchildren.
For lunch, Loon arranged it at San Nae Deul Korean BBQ, also at Connexion@Nexus. It was a great buffet for the entire family!
The children had a swell time collecting and grilling the food.
In the evening, Daren drove YowCH to Sunway Resort Hotel for the TYLin Annual Dinner.
The rest of the family stayed home and packed Bak Kut Teh for dinner. Yin, Yen Yen and Yu Yu joined us for dinner and the mahjong afterwards.
The family slept at about 10:30pm, while YowCH reached home about mid-night.
150201, Sunday
The family met up with Chee Kean for breakfast at Jin Xuan, Damansara. We are really strong in eating dim-sum.
Here’s YowCH with Yen Li and Samuel.
And again, here are the 7 grandchildren.
The Daren and Loon drove the Yongs to the airport while we stayed home to pack. David and Joseph had some football fun, and Esther played the guitar.
After packing and loading the car, we went out to Kampong Chempaka (Tai Kong) for lunch at the coffeeshop. Very nice food and coffee. But due to the lunch crowd, we were spread out over 3 tables.
At about 2:00pm, we finished lunch and drove back to Singapore.
The drive was smooth, but when we reached the checkpoint at 5:30pm, the queue was rather long, and we had to grind along for 1.5hours before crossing the border.
It didn’t helped that a car in front of us broke down with boiling water (overheated engine). YowCH helped them a little and then had to filter out to rejoin the queue.
We reached home at 7:15pm, and had dinner at home.
Overall we thank God for the great timing of having a family gathering with everyone present, a nice dinner, celebration of dad’s birthday, family group photos and attending TYLin Annual dinner. We also had a great time eating together as a family for lunch, gathering dinner, buffet lunch, home dinner (but without YowCH) and breakfast. It was also great that the drives were smooth.
