140615 to 21 PJ, Ipoh, Tambun Trip 2/2

On Wednesday, 18 June 2014, we had hotel breakfast, wich was actually a good 5 mins walk from the rooms across the road and the large open-air carpark, inside the Lost World! The food was good, tough.

At 10:45am, we went over to the Lost World of Tambun and queued a short while for tickets and entry (the park opens at 11:00am). Malaysia school holidays ended last week and Wednesday is the typical lull of visitors tot he park, hence we did not have to compete with a crowd.

With tickets bought (10% off for hotel guests) and wrist tags applied, we started enjoying the park. We planned to do all the dry activities before the wet area and headed straight for the Petting Zoo.

The zoo was designed to be integral to the limestone hills and it looks beautiful.

After the zoo, we walked to the pond (the Needle of Tambun limestone out-crop in the background), and saw the falabella horse, the tigers before reaching the Tin Mine.

At the Tin Mine, there were ‘dulangs’ and YowCH’s mum demonstrated how tin is separated from mud!

After the Tin Mine, we went back to the pond for the canoes. Esther and David shared one and Joseph and YowCH the other. With a little verbal guidance from YowCH, all three children were able to paddle very well (even Joseph!). We did not take the alternate ride (ie the swan foot-paddle boat), rather tame.

We then rode the Lupe’s Adventure roller caster, but it wasn’t fantastic (Legoland’s Dragon was better). However, given that there was not a crowd, we went 4 rounds!

For lunch, we ate at the restaurant within the park, horrible and expensive food.

After lunch, we started on the water play. First thing, the 660m wading pool all round the park.

Then it was tube-ride, too bad that Joseph had to sit-out due to his small size. Again, with no crowd, we actually went through all 4 curvy tube-slides!

Then some fun at the water playground.

And the finale, the beach! Nice fresh water artificial beach with wave generator.

With all the physical activities under the sun, we needed a recharge – cucur udang (prawn dough cake) and teh tarik (aerated tea).

Last activities before the park closes at 6:00pm, we went to the Amusement Park for carnival rides. We took the Storm Rider (Pirate Ship), Dragon Flight and Giddy Galleon.

After that, a little ‘look-look’ for the experience.

At 6:20pm, we left the park and returned to the hotel. Here are the tags before we cut them off at the gate.

We had supper at the hotel Papparich Express.

After dinner, the children went for a second round of Hot Springs while YowCH had a massage. There were live performers – singers and fire-eaters!

And the night ends with supper.

On Thursday, we had hotel breakfast again. The scenery was great as the sun beam was just shooting down over the hills.

Then we left Tambun at 11:00am and reached PJ at 12:55pm. The traffic was very light, but there was slow down near KL due to debris spilled from a truck and police inspection of trucks near Damansara exit.

We then went to Shah Alam to collect the ICs, but Esther’s had some problems with the registration and had to be re-done, to collect on Friday. We snacked at Papparich while David and Joseph had instant noodles with YowCH’s parents at home.

That night, we met YowCH’s classmate Ai Lin at Syed Abu for supper and catching up. The satay was fantastic.

Friday, 20 June, we had breakfast near home at Yat Yeh Hing.

At 10:00am, we reached Bintang Chulan and joined the Church Camp closing.

After saying goodbyes to our friends, we went shopping at One Utama, with lunch at Kluang Station.

We reached home at 3:30pm, and again went to IC Dept at Shah Alam to collect Esther’s IC (thank God, smoothly). and returned home. Here, David and Esther were practicing their Chinese writing.

For dinner, we ate with YowCH’s cousin Huang Yin and family, together with YowCH’s parents, Daren and Loon at Paradigm Mall, Purple Cane Tea Restaurant. The food here are all treated in some way with tea, and generally healthier choice.

After dinner, we rushed over to SS2 for supper (wow, eat and eat) and to meet up with friends (CCK, Thean Seong, the Chims, and Vooi Lee and wife).

We packed our things on Saturday, 21 June, and had lunch at home.

After lunch, we drove off at 1:45pm for coffee at Old Town at Uptown (Damansara Utama).

At 3:00pm, we drove off PJ to return to Singapore. We made a wrong turn on ELITE with a delay of 10 minutes, encountered a bush fire, and then there was a long jam just before Seremban when a car broke-down on the fast lane. while being in the jam, a motorcycle hit a car just next to us. Other than that, the drive was fine under very hot and dry weather.

We had a stop at Pagoh for Baskin Robbins ice-cream, then reached Gelang Patah (last R&R) at 7:20pm. The customary KFC dinner followed and then refuelled.

The customs were quite packed and we took 45 minutes to clear both Malaysia and Singapore customs. Finally reached home at 9:20pm.

We covered a total of 1,430km for this trip.

We thank God for a good holiday, time spent with YowCH’s parents, enjoyable trip to Ipoh and Tambun, getting the ICs done, meeting up with family and friends and safety throughout. Also thank God for Grace’s parents in helping us look after the flat (resetting when power tripped, feeding the terrapins and hunting the bed-bugs). We are also thankful that Samuel is easy to travel in the car, being in the carseat and belted throughout the drives!
