Day 1 – 29 Oct 2010
Gene fetched us to the airport and we arrived at Changi Airport Terminal 1 just before midnight.
We boarded the plane at 01.50 China Airlines CA404 and took off on time at 02.15. At 06.30 the plane landed in Shuangliu Airport, Chengdu.
The local tour bus picked us up from the airport and we arrived at Garden City Hotel at 07.50 for breakfast. Then we reached the first tour location at 09.50, Luodai Ancient Town.
Check out the toilet:
By 11.10 we left for Dujiangyan town for lunch. At 14.15, we reached Dujiangyan, which is the world’s oldest working non-dam irrigation system, constructed over 2000 years ago.
The place is very large, and we walked along the waterways until 16.10 to return to Chengdu to meet TYLin Congqing office colleagues for a show and dinner.
However, the highway was terribly jammed due to a truck overturned and spilling chemicals onto the road, so we arrived at hot-pot Shu Jiu Xiang Restaurant only at 18.40. The hot-pot dinner was great, and we were introduced Wu Liang Ye, one of the top three Chinese liquors.
By 21.30 we reached Nanhe Hotel near town centre, and got a suite! We got to sleep at 23.45.
Day 2 – 30 Oct 2010
We woke early at 05.55 for breakfast at 06.55 (not good food at this hotel). At 08.00 we left Nanhe Hotel for airport to catch our 10.30 flight, but noted that the highway was closed due to heavy fog.
We arrived at the airport at 08.40 and checked in, but due to very heavy fog, the flight was delayed. The agent managed to seat us all (72 staff and family, and 2 tour agents) into an earlier flight scheduled to take off at 06.30, and we were allowed to board the plane at 10.30. However, we still couldn’t take off as Jiuzhai-Huanglong Airport runway was still under fog and iced. At 12.30 we had a lousy ‘burger’ for lunch while waiting on the plane, and finally took off at 14.30.
At 15.10 the plane landed in Jiuzhai-Huanglong Airport, and the outside air temperature was 7 degrees. Remnants of snow and ice could still be seen at the airport.
We left the airport by bus to reach the first stop, a tea shop Zhang Cha Yuan at 16.05 where we bought a jar of Zhu Ye Qing herbal tea and left for the Jiuzhaigou hotel at 17.35.
We had a stop at 18.45 at Jiabo Gucheng resort until 19.05 en route to the Qian He Hotel, which we reached at 19.40. After dinner, we checked into our room, and then we roamed the streets a little from 21.00 to 22.00, then showered and slept at 23.25.
