Day 5 – 02 Nov 2010

We woke at 06.15, checked out and had breakfast before leaving the hotel at 07.50. We reached the famous Chengdu Panda Research Base at 08.40 for about 1.5 hours.

We bought some panda postcards and sent them to Esther, David and Joseph.

We then boarded the bus at 10.40 and reached the brocade shop Tian Rui Hua at 11.25.

By 12.35, we had lunch at Hou Tian Restaurant, and then left for Emei Shan at 13.45. We then toured Huanglongxi ancient town from 15.05 until 16.40 then entered Emei town at 19.00.

By 19.15 we arrived at Emei Shan Grand Hotel for dinner and checking in.

After dinner, we roamed the streets from 20.50 until 22.15, then returned to hotel to review photos and Grace repaired the belt pouch strap with the sewing kit from the hotel and slept at 23.45.

Day 6 – 03 Nov 2010

Having woke up at 06.30, we had breakfast at 07.00 and then left the hotel for Mount Emei tour at 08.05 arriving 10 minutes later. At 08.45, we boarded the Mount Emei internal tour bus to the cable car station, and took the cable car up to Wannian Si (Ten Thousand Year Temple) at 09.20.

We left Wannian Si at 10.35 and left Mount Emei at 11.20 for lunch at Leshan. Upon arrival at Leshan town, we had lunch at 12.10 at Lao Fang Zhi (The Old House) until 13.00 then walked along the river bank while waiting for the boat ride to view the Large Buddha.

At 13.15 we boarded the boat to see the Large Buddha of Leshan from the river (the only angle to see the Buddha, which was carved into the rock, and cannot be seen from land).

We then left Leshan at 14.00 and reached the E Mei Hong crystal shop at 14.25 where Grace bought a bracelet of Emei-red jade beads.

From there, we traveled back to Chengdu, reaching Jinli Street at 17.40 after 2 hours.

We shopped at this local and tourist specialty shopping are until 18.50, then had dinner at 19.25. Dinner was the snack-style “Chengdu Xiao Chi”. After dinner, we headed back to Royal Western Palace Hotel, reaching at 21.00.

After checking in and settling down a little, we went out strolling Tianfu Square from 21.20 until 22.10, then we showered and packed before sleeping at 23.50.

Day 7 – 04 Nov 2010

On the last day, we woke at 06.45 for the final packing. After breakfast, we reached Wenshu Yuen at 09.40 and enjoyed the bamboo gardens until 10.40.

Then we were brought to Dao Ping Chang, a I-Tsing Cultural Centre, but we excused ourselves from the Fengshui talks and roamed the streets instead. We bought pecans and snacks and a second hulu flute and had to hang around until 13.10 for the rest of the group to who were in the Fengshui place.

After lunch at 13.25, we walked around Chunxi Lu from 14.50 to 17.00. Chunxi Lu is very much like Singapore’s Orchard Road, in looks, merchandise and prices, so we didn’t buy anything. We drank Starbucks coffee and bought some McDonald burgers for dinner.

We reached Shuangliu Airport at 17.40 and repacked our bags and had our burgers while waiting for the check-in counter to open. After checking in and boarding the plane, the flight took off on-time at 20.00. We landed safely at Changi Airport at 00.30.

After Gene picked us up at 01.10 we reached home 30 minutes later and unpacked. Here are the goodies:

Grace slept at 02.50 while YowCH updated the blog and slept at 04.05.
