130619 Trip to Legoland

YowCH and Grace took leave on Wednesday 19 June 2013 to bring the children to Legoland. It was planned before the haze from Indonesia fires struck, but thank God for this day, as the haze kept the crowds away.

We woke at 7:00am, ate breakfast at the Block 37 coffee shop and drove over to Legoland at 8:50am. The traffic was light, and we arrived at 9:40am. After a short walk from Carpark 2, we bought tickets (citizen price) and entered Legoland at 10:05am (there was a small crowd already waiting at the gates for the opening at 10:00am).

The first attraction was the Driving School, the children loved it.

Then it was Boating School.

We trained all the children to read the map, they take the lead to get to attractions.

Some fun at Lego City Rescue Academy (fire-station) and City Airport.

Then we went into Land of Adventure, with a shooting ride the Lost Kingdom Adventure, and the Beetle Drop (several drops). Grace’s only ride was the Lost Kingdom Adventure.

We then took a ride up the Observation Tower in Imagination section, followed by a 4D-movie “Clutch Powers”

We had to pull ourselves up in the Kids Power Tower and let go to drop. Very fun.

Lego Kingdoms next, the first ride being Merlin’s Challenge which is very fast and bouncy.

The horse-lovers will of course ride horses at the Royal Joust.

Then we entered the Dragon, a full roller coaster ride. Joseph made the height (but not the age of 6) but he rode anyway. We rode this twice.

Our lunch was at the Knight’s Feast, the western food within Kingdoms.

That was where we spent the RM50 rebate food vouchers that came with the entry tickets with another RM20 cash.

After lunch, we took a ride on the Dragon’s Apprentice thinking that is a kiddy ride – well, not quite, the main drop was still rather high and steep and the turns were sharp. We rode twice.

Next, we crossed to Lego Technic, and got ourselves very wet in the Aquazone Wave Racers ride.

The next ride is only for older children so Joseph sat out of the Project X roller coaster. Again we rode twice.

Then we went over to the Technic Twister (i.e. Disney Teacups), but Joseph didn’t make the height, so we all decided to skip this. Joseph was rather upset that he cannot take many of the rides. More map reading.

We walked past Miniland and took some photos but the afternoon was way too hot, so we moved on to the theatre for the next 4D-movie at 3:35pm, “Chima”.

After the show, we returned to Land of Adventure to ride the Dino Island which was closed in the morning (maintenance?). Joseph sat this one out again, height problem.

We then bought some ice-cold slush drink and returned to Beetle Drop (several drops) and Lost Kingdom Adventure.

Back to Miniland for nice photos.

The haze started thickening in the late afternoon.

Another round of Boating School and Driving School (the children went multiple rounds on each).

Then the children wanted to try the remote control boat driving, and that costs RM5 per boat for 5 minutes. Joseph couldn’t reach the steering and see the boat, so he had to sit out again.

As the sun sets, the haze got worse, but we went indoors for shopping at the Big Shop. YowCH went out to grab some twilight photos.

Here are our souvenir Lego sets bought at Legoland.

At 8:05pm (Legoland lights-out at 8:00pm officially), we left Legoland.

We walked over to Medini Mall and chose to eat Thai food at Absolute Thai.

By the time we reached the car park at 9:20pm, ours was one of 2 cars left in Carpark 2.

The haze has gotten to close to “Hazardous” level by this time.

With very low traffic, we reached home at 10:05pm, just as the haze reached the highest PSI of the day at 321 “Hazardous”. The chart readings are Singapore’s, the haze in Legoland seems slightly less as compared to Singapore.

We thank God for a day of fun, and that Legoland had so few visitors that we managed to cover practically all the rides that we wanted and several rounds on some of them. We also thank God for keeping our health that the haze was not too heavy during our time in Legoland. The children really enjoyed themselves.

Recommendations:
1. Go on an off-peak day, weekday, non-holidays.
2. Bring lots of water.
3. Might need rain coat or umbrella if rainy season.
4. Wear dri-fit clothes and bring extra set.
5. Bring lots of sugar for energy.
6. Might need some distractions if queues are long, bring iPod or books.
7. Prepare the younger/shorter ones that the rides may not admit them.
8. Bring RM cash for buying Lego, food and drinks. You might also need to buy umbrellas, rain coats or rent a pram.
9. Should target your favourite rides (read the map or brochures) and head to them first.
10. Avoid playgrounds unless you are bringing really young children, they are not different from outside Legoland.

  1. thanks for sharing… Yu will be sat out for many rides in term of heights and also age :(

  2. Dear Yin,

Your children too young to fully enjoy, better wait until Yu is at least 5 years old.
