130608 to 15 Church Camp 2013, Kuantan and PJ
This year, Church Camp is held at Swiss Garden Resort, Kuantan, Pahang from Monday, 10 June 2013 to Friday 14 June 2013. We left Singapore on Saturday (8 June) morning, 5:00am and reached PJ at 9:00am. The drive was very peaceful as the highway was not busy at all. We stopped for 15 minutes toilet break at Dengkil.
Upon reaching PJ home, we saw a slug on in the garden, and the children were most excited about it. Then, mum poured salt over it and dried it to death.
We then went out for roti canai breakfast and spent the day with family. YowCH and Grace went out to Giant for sundry and household items.
This photo, taken by Esther, shows the bronze pestle and mortar set and the cutter knife used by YowCH’s parents for the herbs business.
We then went to Paradigm mall for dinner with cousin Yin, and her children Yen and Yu. We ate very tasty noodles at Paradise Dynasty and then had Hokkaido ice-cream.
After dinner, YowCH went out with David and Joseph for supper with Thean Seong, Ray Mun, Chee Kean and Ming Meng.
On Sunday, we practically spent the whole day in One Utama. We ate Sushi Q for lunch.
Then we went shopping and had Papparich for coffee break.
After more shopping, we ate dinner at Old Town before leaving for home.
On Monday, we had a heavy breakfast at dim sum restaurant at Damansara, then YowCH went with mum to the bank.
After that, we loaded the car and drove off to Kuantan via the LDP and KL-Karak Highway followed by East-Coast Highway E8. The KL-Karak stretch is rather dangerous with steep slopes and sharp bends (many accidents), but due to the time, the road was very empty. We left PJ at 10:30am and reached the hotel at 1:30pm.
After checking into our room, we had a late lunch of sandwiches at the hotel coffee shop.
Then camp program started at 4:30pm.
We had durian party and cakes for June birthday campers.
And the children loved the beach very much.
The main camp speaker was Pastor Beh SY.
Supper was cup-noodles! We brought enough to share with some friends (the children brought friends to our room or visited their friends, too)
The other camp speaker was Paster Danny Goh.
The children had their own classes conducted by Scripture Union. Joseph is too old to be with toddlers, but too young to be with the Primary school children, so the older children helped him with reading and writing during class.
In the afternoons (Tuesday to Thursday), we had pool time.
Camp committee organised games on afternoons of Tuesday and Thursdays. On Tuesday was treasure hunt, and on Thursday, cooking competition.
Wednesday dinner was held at Mexica Seafood Restaurant in Kuantan (about 13km from hotel).

On Thursday night after the evening session, we had communion.
The YowCH returned to room to prepare the camp photos slideshow.
On the last day of camp, Friday, the children presented a song:
Then we watched the slide show and had sharing of camp experiences before closing. Thereafter, the campers had lunch and mostly left by bus to Singapore.
We drove off from the hotel at 1:30pm and went towards Kuantan to buy salted fish:
Then we drove from Kuantan back to PJ, reaching at 4:30pm.
We had dinner at home with YowCH’s parents, sister and brother-in-law.
On Saturday, 15 June we had some family time in the morning.
Then we went to PJ Hilton for lunch at Toh Yuen with YowCH’s uncle and his wife, and Chee Kean and Ming Meng. The children were most delighted with the skinning of the Peking Duck.
After lunch, we visited Chee Kean’s place as David and Joseph wanted to play with the dog, Chaco. Esther went home instead.
We then went out for coffee at SS2, British Malaya and returned home and packed for return to Singapore. We carried plenty of diapers and milk powder for Yan. The drive started at 5:10pm.
Between Port Dickson and Senawang, traffic was terribly slow due to an accident on the highway. Thankfully, the road was clear after that.
We had a toilet break at Pagoh, then drove all the way to Gelang Patah where we ate KFC for dinner.
The customs were relatively clear; we reached Bishan at 10:45pm, dropped off Yan’s things and returned home by 11:15pm. With the children’s help, the car was unloaded and we can hit our beds at midnight.
The drive from Singapore to PJ was 370km, and from PJ to Kuantan 270km. Total distance covered is more than 1400km for the week-long trip home and to church camp.
We thank God for good weather, good sermons and discussions during camp, fun activities, great family time, safety on the road and fellowship with church friends.
