121210 Zoo Trip 22 – Panda
Today, Joseph is on holiday (childcare is closed) and both YowCH and Grace took leave from work and brought the family to the zoo. Target: Panda.
We started after lunch at about 1:30pm, it was still very sunny.
While waiting for our 15 minutes time slot starting at 2:20pm, we walked around to see the primates. Joseph was very intrested with all the monkeys. The mousedeers were out and about.
Then it started drizzling, and we went into the Panda display area. We passed by the other exhibits of China’s Sichuan area, but they were all still empty.
This is the climate control room, about 18°C to 22°C, and the light is rather dim, quite similar to the conditions in Chengdu.
There is a red panda.
This is the boy, Kai Kai (凯凯).
And this is the girl, Jia Jia (嘉嘉).
Esther got a very nice photo of Jia Jia rolling around.
The zookeeper helped take this family photo at the Panda room.
Outside, we bought ‘Panda’ ice-cream. Nothing special, only the packaging showing the pandas.
After viewing the pandas, we continued on tram for the Elephant Show as it was raining.
We then went up to the Hamadrayas baboons, and had some snacks. Along the way, we saw a nice and large spider-web.
Lastly, we went for the Splash Safari Show where we saw the sealion. It was a rather wet show.
On our way out, we saw the white tigers, babirusa and a very injured tapir.
Last photo: Panda merchandise at the exit. We left at 6:00pm and had dinner at Adam Road Hawker Centre.
The panda display is very well done, you get to see the pandas and in very natural looking environments. But bring along $5.00 for each adult and $3.00 for each child (3 to 12 years old) to buy special tickets for the 15-minutes slot to see them.

That is a very nice family picture – I suppose $20 for that photo is worth it. Being Singaporean, I would not pay that kind of money to see more animals after already paying for admission tickets to the zoo.
Entry for 5 of us is $19.00 (2x$5 + 3x$3), but you can also buy the zoo photo (superimposed on the pandas) for $25.00.
