YowCH’s work trip to Ipoh – 11 to 12 Mar 2019
YowCH had a 2-day work trip to Ipoh from 11 to 12 March 2019. The team took Scoot at 6:30am from Changi Terminal 2, and arrived at Ipoh at 7:30am.
The airport is very small, mostly for domestic flights. International flights only from Singapore and via Scoot or Airasia.
The local host (Projalma) drove the team (with contractor Eng Lee, client HDB, QP Er. Tham, and consultants YowCH) in a van and had dim-sum (halal) breakfast at Canning Garden.
After breakfast, we went to Projalma’s precast factory, and this company will be casting segments for a HDB bridge (YowCH’s project).
After a short briefing, the team visited the mould and the factory.
The Qualified Persons carried out inspections.
For lunch, we were taken to Little Elephant, a Western-Asian fusion restaurant. YowCH had nasi kerabu (blue rice).
The host order some snacks for sharing, and YowCH had sago for dessert.
After lunch, we continued with the site discussions on quality control, delivery schedules and other related matters.
At about 6:00pm, we arrived back in Ipoh town and checked into Weil Hotel, a new and very nice business hotel with affordable rates.
After a short rest, YowCH brought the team out to the old streets of Ipoh for dinner at Lou Wong bean-spout chicken.
After dinner, we walked the streets a little and returned to the hotel for some discussions and work.
Here are some night scenes of Ipoh taken from the hotel roof.
Next morning, we woke early to have breakfast at Sin Yoon Loong at 7:30am.
We continued to inspect the first segment, for readiness to be cast in concrete.
At about 11:00am, we left Projalma, and was taken to see the queer Kellie’s castle (YowCH suggested this). We just viewed the castle from the carpark.
After that, we drove a bit out of town to the pomelo farm to buy some fresh pomelos, before returning to the hotel to check-out.
Again views from the roof top, in daylight.
We checked out at 12:20pm and we were taken to lunch at Tuck Kee, Big Tree Foot.
After lunch, the hosts brought us to 362 Gunung Rapat Heong Peah, where the biscuits are still baked in traditional style earth ovens.
Then to the nearby Yee Hup shop for buying snacks.
And finally back to Ipoh old street for Lai Kee soya bean curd with ginger black sugar.
We reached the airport at 4:00pm, checked-in smoothly and the flight took off on time at 5:25pm.
However, the plane had to circle at Changi due to heavy traffic and we landed only at 6:45pm. YowCH reached home at 7:45pm, and brought along lots of goodies (mostly food).
Thank God for a smooth trip, work done during the trip, positive interactions between the team from the contractor, client and consultants and safety. Also thank God for all the good food in Ipoh.
