Samuel’s follow-up heart scan

Samuel had a follow-up heart scan on 20 April at KKH. He was behaved well, and allowed the scan to be carried out smoothly.

The scan results are positive. Thank God he is alright. Another follow-up scan in 3 months time to confirm if there is any permanent heart damage.

Samuel hospitalized for Kawasaki Disease

Samuel had high fever from Friday, 7 April until Tuesday 11 April, so we brought him to KK Hospital A&E on Tuesday morning. After seeing the A&E doctor and doing a blood test (negative results), all the signs points towards Kawasaki Disease.

There was an article on Kawasaki Disease back in 2015 in Singapore newspaper Today.

Here is a description from KK Hospital.

Here is Samuel after his finger-prick for blood, he didn’t even cry.

With this disease, early treatment is important, we we had to admit him to the ward. However, the wards were full, so YowCH went home to pack clothes and bring some toys and lunch, while we waited in the corridor for bed space.

He was then admitted to Ward 75 at about 1.00pm, a 4-bed room.

Later in the evening, YowCH brought the other children to visit, and he was placed into a single-bed room.

Next morning, YowCH visited after sending the children to school.

A team of doctors saw him at about 10.am and IVIG treatment for Kawasaki was confirmed (simpler explanation here).

The IVIG was started at about 12:30pm.

Grace’s mom and Gene visited in the afternoon.

YowCH went back to work in the afternoon, then fetched the children after school to meet Samuel.

We left the hospital at about 9:20pm. The IVIG completed the entire dosage at about 11:00pm.

On Thursday, YowCH had to go to work for some critical meetings. He dropped the children at school, and visited Samuel and Grace for a short while.

Samuel wasn’t drinking and eating very well, so he had to be on the drip.

Grace brought him out for a stroll after the drip was taken off.

Some friends visited, Pastor Frederick, Mrs Pastor Annie Beh, his teachers, and Grace’s colleague, Ang Soh Hong.

YowCH visited again in the evening, but Esther had school activity and the boys had Chinese tuition class. YowCH left at about 8:45pm.

Friday was Good Friday, and YowCH brought the Joseph to visit early in the morning, after dropping Esther and David at church for Good Friday service.

Yan and family visited at about 11:30am, and then Grace left for work at 12:20pm (afternoon shift).

The doctor confirmed Samuel’s discharge, and he was given 3 months’ worth of aspirin to help with blood flow.

Grace’s parents visited, Esther and David brought lunch as they came over from church.

With the discharge papers signed at about 5:00pm, we left the hospital at 5:20pm on Friday, 14 April (Good Friday).

We thank God that the doctors were able to diagnose the disease early and correctly, and the IVIG was administered in a timely manner. We also thank God that Samuel responded well to treatment and is practically healed now. We will have some follow-up check-ups and medications, but as of today (Sunday, 16 April, Easter) he is doing very well.

Boys’ room completed, dinner with Yongs at Sichuan Dou Hua

We have slowly moved the books, clothes and toys for the boys’ room, and managed to shift everything nicely into place on Sunday afternoon.

Now, David, Joseph and Samuel share one room.

We had dinner with the Yongs at Sichuan Dou Hua, a Sichuan restaurant, at Parkroyal, Beach Road. The food was good.
