Samuel’s 1st birthday party with friends & family

Today is Samuel’s birthday, he has just turned one. We thank God for blessing us with Samuel and we celebrated with a small party with family and friends. Grace’s parents and sister came, so did YowCH’s sister and family, and even Chee Kean and Ming Meng came all the way from PJ. A large contingent of our church care group members came, too.

This is the boss of the day:

The entire family started working on the lunch party from 7:30am. Esther cleaned the house, David helped prepare garlic, Grace made porridge for the children, Joseph bought coffee and chilli (from chicken rice shop).

The Goldhill chicken rice guys gave Samuel a birthday drumstick!

Grace’s mum made great yam cake (salty) and water chestnut cake (sweet) for Samuel’s party. Very nice!

There was much to prepare, Esther chopped mint for mojito drink, YowCH fried macaroni Cantonese-style, Joseph prepare the petai and David made great sardines (with lime and chilli).

Here’s God’s blessing to us in our lunch spread. We had Cantonese herbal soup, baked chicken and grilled prawns, too.

Here are photos of Samuel’s family and friends.

The girls led by Esther were busy making lots of great drinks.

We then had the birthday song over the water chestnut cake, and a black-out candle:

This is Samuel in his suit for the day:

Grace and YowCH got him a size-zero Adidas football.

Happy birthday, Samuel.

Bike poles

Grace bought 2 bicycle poles from Groupon, to help with the management of the bicycles. The poles can each carry 2 bikes. They were delivered to TYLin and YowCH drove them home.

Esther and David were both helpful in setting up the poles. They are supposed to be mounted by drilling into the roof and floor, but we stuck some anti-slip mats and just pressure-mounted them instead. Hopefully no accident of the poles or bikes dropping.

Here are two views of the neater bikes arrangement. The children can now get their bikes out without removing the adults’ bikes and the overall space taken is reduced by several inches.

Yows doing “That Thing You Do” – Facebook

For YowCH’s Facebook “Close Friends”, you can watch this video of Esther, David and YowCH doing “That Thing You Do” with Joseph handling the video camera.

Transformers 4 Dinobots completed with Snarl

Grace gave YowCH a surprise e-bay buy – Dinobot Snarl.

Now the set is complete with Grimlock (brown), Strafe (blue), Slash (cyan), Slug (purple), Scorn (red), Slog (silver) and Snarl (green):

Samuel’s goggles for swim

We went for swim again today, and took a pair of goggles from swim coach for Samuel. Matching colours with his swim suit.

He really didn’t like it.

Here are some photos of Esther, David and Joseph in the pool during lessons:

And that’s coach Francis Tay, nice guy.

We noted that some condensation formed inside the underwater casing of the camera, but it wasn’t a leak. Probably due to moisture trapped in the case when we sealed it, and then the heat from the camera body cause the condensation to happen at the coolest point, that is the lens area which is furthest from the body.

Esther’s baptism and dinner with friends

Today is Esther’s baptism. Total of 13 candidate on Saturday and another 13 more on Sunday. Esther’s the shortest one on the left.

That’s Asst Pastor Alan Tay and Lead Pastor Beh SY baptising Esther.

We took some family photos after baptism.

Esther’s friend Nadya came to witness, too.

After baptism, we went out with the Lims, the Tans and the younger Leongs to NUS Guild House for a fellowship dinner.

The food was good, but the fellowship was much better.
And you can see our young friend, Esher Leong, much larger than Samuel while only 3 weeks older, eating a huge pot of food while Samuel gets a measly tub.

Grace’s mum’s birthday lunch, Samuel on car

We went to a small French restaurant in Thomson V Two, Black Sheep Café (Café Les Muitton Noir). The food was nice, not too expensive (but not cheap either) and we had a great lunch as a family celebrating mum’s birthday and Esther’s upcoming baptism.

Then we put Samuel on the car…

Isis tail glow during reverse

To see the ground better at night, we have talked about a glow light under the bumper to help light up the rear wheels. Linked to the reverse light, it has a relay to the red tail lights to come on only when both the tail lights and the reverse is engaged.

This was done as YowCH sent the Isis back to Tong Lee Wee to fix the recently replaced right wing mirror motor, which apparently is spoilt again.

The row of LEDs are cheap China made, but waterproof. Supply and install at $38.00.
1. Cutting the LED strip and joining the power wires, then installing the lights under the bumper.

2. The relay switch, and the installed LED strip.

3. Here is the end result, there is a glow behind the rear wheel and visibility is better (particularly when reversing near open drains or slopes. Even the reverse cam is clearer as there is more light now.

Day-trip to Sentosa with lots of action

We took leave on the first day (of 4 days) of PSLE marking holidays (14 Oct 2014) and went to Sentosa. In a day full of actions, we had fun on the Luge, Merlion Walk, Trapeze, MegaBounce and MegaClimb.

Joseph’s pirate ship & soccer, Samuel’s teeth

Joseph received a wood craft ship from his classmate Katelyn. We built it on Saturday. The sails were plain white, so we printed some pirate design instead!

David also suggested painting the ship. We’ll see how to go about that.

On Sunday, Joseph played at The Rainforest again, friendly matches.

David was at the neighbouring Centaurs Sports Park with five other West Coast boys on loan to the another team that was short of players. Good exposure and made new friends.

Samuel had 4 teeth erupting over the past week (with fever) and missed one week of school. He was having his teething holiday with grandparents at Moh Guan. Now he has 6 teeth!

Esther will be baptised this coming Saturday.
