Joseph is 4

Today, Joseph turns 4.

We had lunch at Suntec City Turkish Deli (thanks to Yan and PQ) with all our family members staying in Singapore. Very nice kebab meal with fantastic desserts Künefe and Baklava.

TYLin 40 Annual Dinner

YowCH and Grace attended TYLin’s 40th Anniversary Annual Dinner at Singapore Island Country Club – Bukit Location on 23 Nov. We were in black ‘leathers’ and chains…
. YowCH was voted (by the overseas guests) best dressed man with prize of $100 Metro vouchers.

After dinner, YowCH and Grace hosted some Malaysian office guests for supper and drinks at “Oyster Bar & Grill wharf” at Robertson Quay, Quayside. We had a great time chatting, sent them back to Miramar Hotel, and reached home at 1:30am.

Joseph’s birthday party in school

Today, we celebrated Joseph’s 4th birthday (2 days early) in his school. He wanted a football-strawberry cake and that’s what we got him.

And for his friends, instead of goodie-bags, we gave Lego favour-packs instead. The packs each builds a bunny and a chick. These 20 packs were rather affordable (US$2.60 each) and thanks to Gene for bringing them from the States as they only deliver to US addresses.

And after that we went in-line skating at the carpark under our flat.

Church Junior Camp Cook-out, Lego Shell-Ferrari

On Sunday evening, 18 Nov, YowCH conducted the Cook-out session for Church Junior Camp (16 to 19 Nov), which is the Sunday Dinner for those staying overnight (Primary 4 and 5 children). The menu was Mothballs Earthworms and Garden Mess. Actually, they are fishball/meatball noodles and mixed vege with pork and eggs.

The children with some help and guidance from youths and young adults, cooked their own meals in mess-tins and most of them produced very tasty food.

Esther specialised in frying eggs with vege and pork, very tasty.

David did not cook (he is not yet Primary 4) but he was really helpful.

Grace helped with the session and so did Joseph.

We all had a great time at church for this cook-out and it is now strongly suggested for future junior camps.

Oh, we managed to collect all 7 packs of the Shell-Ferrari Lego special limited edition sets (1 truck, 5 cars and 1 set of minifigs):

Big thanks to Grace’s colleague who pumps Shell for getting the cars and to Grace’s parents who got us the set of minifigs.

YowCH’s new HTC phone with Beats headphones

After workng very hard for the past 21 months, YowCH’s HTC Desire now suffers from a failing vibrator and is too small on the memory (sluggish running of programs). With a recontract with Singtel, and searching for a not-too-large and not-too-expensive phone, he settled at the recently released HTC Desire X at $18.00 with 24 months contract (street price is $350.00), bought online and delivered to TYLin office. In addition, he paid an additional $68.00 for a piece of Beats Solo headphones (street price about $200.00), collected at Oro, the distributor.

Still using Android (now ver 4.0. Ice Cream Soda), data and software transfer was successfully carried out in a few hours, much easier than the previous transfer from Window Mobile to Android.

And yes, the phone is white. The alternate colour in Singapore is dark blue, which looks quite bad, actually. Overseas seems to have black.

In-line skates update

Today is Deepavali Holiday, so we spent time at home running the skates. Grace can move around pretty OK now; Esther, David and YowCH are making tight turns and jumping; and Joseph can go 15m, turn around and go another 15m unassisted now. Looks like we’ll be going onto the carpark for more serious practices coming weekend.

Golf for Esther and David

Esther and David had a round of golf at the Marina Bay Driving Range with YowCH this evening. Tomorrow is Deepavali holiday and school holidays are starting, so we will try to give them some time to learn golf.

These next two photos are screen captures from videos, showing that both Esther and David can hit the ball and make it fly.

Joseph in-line skating

Joseph tried on the skates again, and with some guidance and help from YowCH, Esther and David, he can now stand up from ground, balance and move along a little. Holding his hand, he can actually turn. Wow!

More in-line skates, children golf and ukuleles

With Esther and David doing well on the in-line skates, we gave Joseph his birthday present in advance – his own pair of in-line skates. You can certainly see his joy.

Well, YowCH and Grace got a pair each too, and here you see us practising. Grace has never been on skates, and YowCH only played around a little about 10-plus years ago.

YowCH saw a good deal on a set of junior golf clubs ($99) and picked it up for them to try out. Consists of 1 driver, 2 irons and 1 putter, all in a bag. Looks like Esther and David can join YowCH in the driving range.

Meanwhile, Grace ordered and picked up 3 more ukuleles, rather fruity ones, from Groupon at about $28 each. From left to right – YowCH’s, ‘glitter’, ‘kiwi’, ‘watermelon’ and our first. The new ones are very colourful. They will be used to start off church juniors (7 to 11) on ukulele-playing.

Esther singing and back to ballet, starting in-line skates

Today Esther sang for the Church 55th Anniversary Dinner promotion in 1st and 2nd English and the Chinese services. It was great, as Enoch and Han Wei were playing the violin very well. The tune was “O sole mio” (Elvis sang it as “It’s now or never”) and the words were written by Hsiao Yen for this promotional song. Very well received by church members.

Grace and YowCH have also been thinking of sending Esther and David for in-line skates training this coming school holidays, with some courses offered with skates and some without. By God’s great timing, Kelvin offered us 3 pairs of old children skates and we took them up at a token price. Esther and David had about 2 hours run on them, and they are able to get around! Looks like we can save the money on the course!

Today, Esther also returns to the ballet class after absence of almost 3 months due to the toe fracture from the cycling accident in August.
