Covid-19 “Circuit Breaker” situation end-May

Samuel’s church meeting, big group on Zoom.

We watched the Michael Bay Transformers movies, and took out the toys for Samuel to have some fun.

We did some home improvement works (in this case adding a shelf to Esther’s table), but the drill spoilt. YowCH opened it and found that the problem is the electrical direction switch, with the forward drive spoilt and the drill only works in reverse. So YowCH shifted teh wires around to make teh drill work in forawrd, but no more reverse now. Replacement part is too expensive and not worth the money.

YowCH received a cheque from Prudential for $500.00, benefits for having served Quarantine Order due to Covid. Good pocket money!

Another BCG meeting online.

The whole family recorded another church choir session (David was conducting and doing the filming on the camera). We had 3 good takes, but about 12 bad starts, mostly with us laughing due due to Samuel’s behaviour.

Esther also contributed to the church Youth Service worship.

Samuel doing church activities online.

We contacted our friends, the Lims, in Melbourne, Australia, to catch up with them in this Covid period.

We still drove the Odyssey around, mostly sending and picking Grace as she is working daily at KKH. But the roads were quite empty and we had great fuel efficiency, covering more than 600km in 1 tank (55L) of petrol!

Things in the house keeps needing maintenance, the plug point plastic broke, and YowCH had to buy the part (the box against the wall) to replace it. The face was changed about a year ago.

YowCH bought a sound mixer for Esther, to let her have better mixing controls for the worship and other musical recordings.

Joseph built his Gundam robot.

YowCH had to visit his construction site prior to the planned worksites re-opening on 2 June.

We picked up an old light cover that a neighbour thrown away, and it serves well as a Bey Blade arena.

Grace and YowCH went out to buy some food, and picked up the government-issued “improved” masks on 30 May.

Covid-19 “Circuit Breaker” situation mid-May

Here’s Samuel having a class meeting, from home.

Grace made many face masks for the family to use once the lockdown ends.

We had our cell-group meetings on-line.

The family also recorded songs for the church virtual choir.

This song is Jesus Shall Reign, and YowCH, Grace, Esther and Joseph participated.

We also had mahjong time. The children loves the game.

Well, Samuel wasn’t ready, and Grace took over.

Covid-19 “Circuit Breaker” situation end-April

In the middle of the Circuit Breaker period, the brothers play online game together.

Joseph built a few of his Gundam models, adding to his army.

YowCH’s work table, upgraded from 2 screens to 3 screen, having bought the new Samsung curved full-HD monitor from Lazada.

Our insurance agent sent some Maracons, a little gift durign the lock-down.

Our printer suddenly died, and we had to order another one from Lazada. Thankfully it was delivered in 3 days!

More game time, with all 4 children playing Brawl Stars together.

We had a Zoom meeting among YowCH’s cousins on a Saturday afternoon.

On 26 April, we recorded a worship session for the 17 May 2020 junior worship.

Samuel received a mail from church, with activities!

Covid-19 “Circuit Breaker” situation mid-April

With the Covid lock-down to stay at home, our church immediately started online service:

We bought some toys for Sam from internet orders:

YowCH and Esther recorded their parts as part of the church online choir, singing O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing:

You can watch it here on Facebook.

This is Samuel attending his Junior Service, with activities which we printed for him to do.

We collected the reusable masks issued by the Singapore Government for citizens and PRs.

Our shower heater died, and thankfully, we can call the electrical shop owner and arranged for a replacement unit, which YowCH installed immediately.

Our cell group met online through Zoom. The juniors held their own meeting.

When we went to NTUC, we bought some beer – Corona, to celebrate the virus!

Gene arranged for a Zoom meeting dinner, where she even bought the food to be delivered to our place.

We recorded another song for the church online choir, this time, with YowCH, Esther and Samuel, singing The Revelation Song.

You can watch it here on Facebook.

YowCH HBP, hi-fi replaced, Beacon FG lo-hei

YowCH’s high blood pressure medication increased after 14 days with review from his doctor. He now take Micardis which is the same Telmisartan 40mg as before, but with Hydrochrolothiazide 12.5mg added. Started on 5 Feb 2020.

YowCH ordered a Marantz SR5013 receiver/amplifier from Lazada last week. The model is a few years old and shops doesn’t seem to carry it. This is to replace the Denon 1708 which we have been using since start of 2008, and is very sickly already. This Marantz SR5013 still has analogue 7.1 input, which is great for playing back SACD.

Then we found out that the Velodyne CHT8R sub-woofer had no sound, so YowCH brought it to be checked and found that the circuit board is burnt, repair is $250 and not guaranteed to work, so we bought another sub-woofer, the Mirage MM8 with 3 speakers. Nice bass sound from a small sub-woofer, and with the low-frequency sounds of movies, our windows and walls rattle!

Grace was not working on Thursday, 6 Feb, so she made a caramel cheese cake for Beacon FG. We had our new-year meeting on Friday night, 7 Feb, where we tossed the lo-hei (also prepared by us, with abalone instead of fish).

Here’s a photo of Grace swimming. She has been swimming 20 laps a week recently.

KTP CNY lunch, BCG at Yows’ home

YowCH’s company, KTP, had a Chinese New Year lunch on Friday 17 Jan 2020.

Later in the evening, YowCH, Esther and David prepared dinner for BCG as we hosted the cell group at our place.

Some miscellaneous stuff:
Wi-fi biscuit:

Pomelo skin helmet for Samuel:

YowCH very fast run, ginger juice, Beacon FG Christmas BBQ

Happenings on 27 Dec 2019 (Friday)

YowCH had a good 2.5km run in the morning, completing it in 12m20s which is his best time equally the run back in Nov 2018. 2.4km was reached in 11m55s, which is very good.

YowCH decided to make fresh ginger juice (to make ginger honey or ginger soju). Did it the traditional way, with Joseph preparing the ginger, then pounded using classic pestle and mortar. Esther and Samuel also joined in to help. David was in school for basketball practice.

While the ginger juice was being prepared, we prepared seafood for the Beacon Family Group Christmas party at the Lyes’ place (Castle Green). We bought salmon, ikan kuning and prawns. YowCH collected the seafood from the market (pre-ordered 1 week ago) after the earlier morning run and dropping off David at school and Grace at work.
Salmon was prepared with salt, lemon, thyme, and butter.

Ikan kuning with sambal belacan sauce.

Prawns with salt, garlic and ginger.

We celebrated the Dec and Nov birthdays, so Joseph was included.

Church Junior Camp, Samuel’s Swim Safer Stage 3, MCBPC-TBC,S football

This year’s Junior Camp, from Saturday 16 Nov to Sunday 17 Nov, was Joseph’s last and Samuel’s first.

On the first day, they made lava lamps.

They brought containers and utensils for their meals. Good food prepared by Mrs. Loo.

The performances on Sunday night, after dinner with family and a parenting talk for the parents.

On Sunday afternoon, YowCH and Grace took Samuel out of camp for 2 hours to attend his Swim Safer Stage 3 exam. He skipped Stages 1 and 2. YowCH had to read to him the multiple choices questions as he could not read. He had to swim breast stroke, survival back, wear a life vest in water, swim survival back with life vest, tread water for 30 seconds and dive 1.5m to retrieve an object. He did all that fastest and smoothest, although he was the youngest and smallest guy in the batch of students taking the test.

UPDATED 25 Nov 2019: He got his cert!

The same evening, David played football for our church, The Bible Church, Singapore, in the regular friendly match against Mount Carmel Bible Presbyterian Church. Esther took the photos.

YowCH run in haze, Church juniors worship

YowCH has been running regularly (2x 2.5km each week), even when the haze from Indonesia is attacking Singapore. He ran a decent 12m50s 2.5km, which completed 2.4km in 12m15s (Napfa standard A for age 45+). The haze was about PSI 90, getting a bit high.

In the evening, for Church, YowCH, Esther and David lead worship. It was fun and exciting to have an uplifting worship with the children.
