YowCH work trip to Batam on 6 June 2017, Esther’s birthday

YowCH had a one-day trip to Batam (Sekupang ferry terminal) to visit a few islands owned by an Indonesian developer for a potential resort development, partnering SJ architect and SMEC environmental specialist. Departing from office at about 9:30am, he returned home by 8:15pm.

This is the Sekupang Ferry Terminal.

Views of the uninhabited islands.

The sampan that the client prepared for the consulting team.

The team hiked up the main island of about 15Ha.

The sceneries are nice, but it was very hot and sunny.

While waiting for teh return ferry, YowCH manage to prepare the trip report in the canteen.

Incidentally, Esther turned 15 today, but she is now in Hong Kong with her school trip from 5 to 8 June 2017.

YowCH work trip to Dhaka 31 May to 3 June

YowCH was sent to Dhaka for 2 days (flight on night of 31 May and returned to Singapore on 3 June) for a tender presentation and negotiation for a master-planning project (Blangladesh government project) teamed-up with a Singapore architect firm and engage by a Bangladesh local architect.

The SQ flight was rather empty, YowCH stretched out to sleep over 4 middle seats. And the the airport is quite run-down and old fashioned.

The Singapore team of 5 stayed at Lakeshore Banani, a reasonably nice hotel in a good area of the city.

The streets were rather empty during Ramadan, especially near the time for breaking fast (Iftar). Traffic is generally very busy and noisy (horns all the time) from 7:00am until 10:00pm.

Here’s the team preparing for the presentation at the Client’s office.

In the evening, YowCH took a ride on a trishaw (rickshaw in local calling) for a city tour. Only 20-30 Taka for a short ride, and the 30 minutes trip was only 100 Taka (S$1= 58 Taka).

The next day, FRiday (which is a weekend holiday in the Moslem country), we visited the site with the Client rep. The site is very flat, and so is Dhaka and the rest of Bangladesh, the flattest country in the world (Dhaka is 200km inland from the shore and only 4.0m above sea level!).

We had mostly hotel food due to Ramadan, but the local architect brought us to some local eateries for local fare. This is Kitchuri, rice baked with spices and meat in a clay bowl, covered with bread.

More city views.

We had some snacks prior to our flight, and the rain came (heavy by Singapore standards but mild to the locals).

Here’s the external view of the airport and the return flight was also very empty.

Points to note about Bangladesh:
Tourists Visa is hard to get, and Business Visa needs an invitation letter from a local business or government agency.
The currency is Taka and is not valid worldwide. We can only change for Taka when we land. And we need to change all Taka to foreign currency when we depart.
The streets are not as dangerous as what the media says, perhaps Banani and Gulshan are the safer locations.

YowCH’s work trip to Bali on 18 May 2017

YowCH had a 1 day trip to Bali on 18 May 2017. He woke at 4:00am to catch the 7:00am flight, and left Bali at 8:00pm to reach home at 11:45pm. Very tiring and hectic for a day on the beach.

This is Bali Airport at Denpasar:

YowCH with the team from SJ and the Client:

It was really very hot. But the Client treated the team to a nice lunch and tea-break.

YowCH at MBS rooftop

YowCH was invited to a corporate event at Ce La Vi (rooftop) of Marina Bay Sands on Thursday evening.

The view was very nice, after rains in the afternoon, with cloud covered buildings.

The night view was great, too.

Here’s the Southern view for Gardens by the Bay and Marina Barrage.

Another liquor, CNY dinner with KTP Infra/Geo teams

Another nice and colourful mix, Campari at the bottom, Blue Curacao in the middle and Rum at the top. Goes well with bitter-sour grapefruit.

On 8 Feb 2017, YowCH booked a dinner for the KTP Infra and Geo teams to celebrate CNY at Tunglok Signature, Vivocity. Te food was great, and the fellowship even greater.

Last look of TYL, KTP office moved in, liquors

YowCH moved into the KTP new office space in the first week of January, and by 10 Jan, he was fully settled in.

Here’s a last look at his TYL office.

And we had some fun with liquors at home. This is a layered drink with strong taste, using Campari, Jaegermeister and Tequila.

And here’s eating longans with vodka.

New seat at KTP

On the last day of work for 2016 (30 Dec), the new office space was ready for moving in. This is YowCH’s new seat at KTP:

Trip to PJ

We had a short trip to PJ from 30 Nov to 3 Dec. Please click on photos below to visit the page.

YowCH started working in KTP

From 1 Nov 2016, YowCH is a Director (Civil) in KTP Consultants Pte Ltd, 1 floor below T.Y.Lin in E-Centre @ redhill.

He shares a temporary room with Fen Leong while the new office space is being renovated, expected to complete by mid-Nov.

YowCH’s last day at TYLin on 28 Oct 2016

28 Oct 2016, 18 years and 5 months from the day YowCH joined TYLin, was his last day. Kenneth Ivan (leaving on 31 Oct) bought some snacks and YowCH bought some drinks (including the Brewerks Beer) to thank the colleagues.

YowCH also received a very personal card from his closer colleagues and a G-Shock Mudmaster GG1000 watch as a parting gift.

The watch is very nice, but huge! Good for outdoors with compass, thermometer and mud/water resistance.
