Jiuzhaigou trip – update

Today is the third day, and we spent the whole day in the main attraction of the trip, that is, Jiu Zhai Gou or Nine Villages Valley. The sceneries in JZG is fantastic, and all water based. However, we were also interested in mountain, trees and clouds.

Here are six teaser photos, there will be better ones later.
Nou Ri Lang waterfall, the first major stop we had:

Did you notice the rainbow in the photo above? Next was Mirror Lake, but not perfectly reflective as there was wind.

Here, we were at the Five Flower Lake:

The roads are quite dangerous, being narrow and close the the edge:

This is a view of the Long Lake, which is actually much longer than what can be seen here, much like a sea:

The last lake we visited was Five Coloured Pool, very nice:

We will update when we next have internet access. After JZG, we’ll be visiting Mount Emei and the big buddha at Leshan.

TYLin Trip to Jiuzhaigou

YowCH and Grace left home on Thursday to catch a flight at 2:00am to Chengdu for the TYLin company trip to Jiuzhaigou. The children did not join this trip, as it is mostly bus rides and walking, with sightseeing in between, none of those children friendly activities. Big thanks to Grace’s parents for looking after them.

Here we are, just landed in Chengdu on 29 Oct morning.

We then visited Luodai Ancient Town and the Dujiangyan irrigation system. The river and scale of the system is huge.

We had dinner with the TYLin Congqing office colleagues at a Sichuan hotpot restaurant, and enjoyed great numbing spicy hot soup steamboat and a nice strong liquor “Wu Liang Ye”.

The next day, 30 Oct, we went to the airport to fly to Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport at 10:20a, but due to heavy fog, the flight was delayed by over 4 hours. We reached Jiuzhai at 3:10pm, after waiting in the plane for 4 hours and a shot 40 minutes flight. The plane took us over the clouds and mountains, beautiful views.

After we landed, and having lost 4 hours, the first stop is a tea house where we were expected to buy some tea (typical tour shopping stopover). The scenery of the rural area was fantastic.

This is a short trip update. More updates later on, and a dedicated page to file the trip.

Oktober Fest dinner with Yan, PQ and Siu Hei

We had dinner with Yan, PQ and Siu Hei at Brotzeit Vivocity (German restaurant) to enjoy Oktober Fest. We took on their special Oktober Fest platter for 4 to 5 with pork-knuckle, sausages, patties, potatoes and sauerkraut. We added some potato wedges.

You can see that Esther and Joseph were really excited about the food.

Siu Hei looked really bored, probably because he got only a little meat patty (salty stuff) and some cucumbers.

Grace and David were happily chomping down the great roasts.

There was good bonding time between the two young cousins.

And we can proudly say that we completed the meal!

Joseph drinking soup

Like any other Yow, Joseph drinks soup straight from a bowl.

Joseph is cleared

Thank God for keeping Joseph safe, the unofficial blood culture results shows negative for anything serious. So it was just a prolonged flu and fever bout. He’ll still be on MC until 16 Oct.

Joseph in hospital – day 3

This morning, Joseph looks much better, the fever is gone and the nose running less. But the eye is still swollen.

He ate one tub of yogurt that YowCH brought along and seems to be getting back his appetite.

[Evening update]

Here’s Joseph all ready to leave the hospital, at about 5:45pm.

And here’s Joseph having a little noodle and some juice for dinner at home.

Thank God that the whole episode wasn’t serious. Now we just wait for the doctor’s final clearance pending results of the blood culture. Joseph is now on hospitalisation leave until 16 Oct.

Joseph in hospital – day 2

We visited Joseph before school/work. He is still bubbly as before, but weaker (not eating solid food). The swollen eye is still there, but he is smiling most of the time.

That’s David and Esther with him before we left.

Here we are again after work/school. Grace picked David from kindergarten and YowCH brought Esther. Then we had dinner at the KKH Kopitiam.

Prelim findings is that there is nothing serious, but no confirmations as of now.

We’ll update again tomorrow.

Joseph in hospital

After a few days of fever and bad runny nose, his right eye turned red. He did not eat well for the past three days, too. After checking with Gene, we brought him to KKH and he is now in hospital, having admitted at about 9:00pm into Ward 86, Room 9 (single person, very luxurious!).

From the photos, he doesn’t look that bad, but he has been quite miserable. Gene helped us that that family photo.

Ukuleles for Church Children’s Day

The Bible Church, Singapore celebrated Children’s Day on Sunday 3 Oct 2010 with a fun event from 8:30am to 12:00 noon. We have games, worship, more games, a message through a skit and snacks.

Stanley was the worship leader, and for musicians, YowCH and Esther joined his son, Daniel forming a small ukulele band. We played 5 songs!

Trip to PJ

We just had a short trip to PJ from 24 to 27 Sept 2010, and that is for the joyous occasion of the wedding of Chee Kean and Ming Meng on 25 Sept.

We drove up on Friday morning, went for the rehearsal on Friday night, followed the whole ceremony and dinner on Saturday, went shopping on Sunday morning, followed by a trip to Kajang, then meeting up with CCK&MM at Tropicana City and dinner at Kepong, ending with a drive back to Singapore from Monday morning.

Photos are in this page.
