Joseph gets a 2nd hand bicycle

The yellow bike that Joseph has been training on had so many crashes that the front wheel is off-alignment and wobbly. so we bought another 2nd hand bike for him on 14 May 2014. This Urata bike is normal (nothing special) and we got it at $45. The wrappers were still on the bike, but it is at least 3 years old given the rusty parts.

The first thing we did was to remove the unnecessary weights (basket, rack and plastic wraps) and then adjust the seat, handlebar, brakes and kick-stand.

The bike is not too bad, Joseph can ride it, and will continue his training on this. The yellow bike is now at Moh Guan, back-up training.

Cycle, swim, Samuel’s passport photo

Last Saturday, while Esther and David were at Chinese class and Grace at work, YowCH coached Joseph in cycling. He can go for a short distance and balance better now, but still not yet cycling.

Then on Sunday, we went swimming again. Esther can now do breast-stroke and free-style, and started on back-stroke. David is able to breast-stroke now, but needs more training to go long distance. Joseph is still playing about, he needs to get serious about learning to swim.

The coach also taught Esther and David to get into a life-jacket while in the water, and both can do it nicely.

Samuel is quite adapted to the water, and enjoys his dips in the pool.

Seriously, he doesn’t even choke or cry after we dip him into the water!

Samuel will get his PR paperwork done at ICA tomorrow on 6 May, and we took a recent coloured passport photo of him, as required.

Well, we also took the other children.

Here are a few of the outtakes of Samuel’s photo taking.

Terrapins update, children posing

A short update on our terrapins, they have grown rather large, twice the length they were when we got them. The colour has also gone rather dark, and they eat much more than before.

The tank will probably have to be upgraded someday, but we won’t have the space for them…

We had dinner at Far East Square and here are the children posing with some bronze sculptures of Ching Dynasty children playing.

Soccer League – WC vs. BBEV

Today, we had our first match for the “South West Little League” – West Coast CSC vs. Bukit Batok East View RC. There are 5 categories – Under 6: 1 game (Joseph), Under 8: 4 games, Under 10: 4 games (David played 2), Under 12: 1 game and Above 13: 1 game. Grace was working (on a Sunday) so YowCH had all the children with him. Esther helped with the photos (together with another parent, Mr Liew) and looking after Samuel. Parents of the teammates also helped look after Samuel when both Esther and YowCH were in the field.

Here’s the team photo:

And here’s the pre-game photo of the two teams:

Coincidentally, both teams are red (we remembered BB as green).

YowCH was the manager for the Under 6 team. Joseph played goalkeeper for one half and striker for the next half. His game was a 1-1 draw.

David played goalkeeper and defender. He played two games, both won with 3-1 and 9-0.

Both David and Joseph played well and had a good time.

Here are some photos of Samuel during the game:

Thank God for nice weather and great games. We won 7 games, drew 3 and lost 1, scoring 24 vs. 6. A good chance for Esther to practice photography, too. Liew was using the 200mmf2.0 lens, fantastic DOF blur!

TYLin Staff Club photo shoot at Botanic Gardens

We had a Saturday photo shoot outing to Botanic Gardens on Saturday morning organised by the TYLin Staff Club, with YowCH as one of the instructors. Clink on the link below for the dedicated page:

Esther went for Maths Olympiad and David went for Chinese class, so only the two younger boys went along, and this is Samuel’s first trip to the Botanic Gardens.

Soccer tourney at Jurong West

For the West Coast GRC and Pioneer Constituency “Community Sports Festival @ West Coast Cluster 2014″, YowCH brought the 3 boys to Jurong West Stadium on Sunday morning. Grace had work from 7.00am to 3:30pm and Esther was away on an overnight camp under Church.

The kick-off was taken by Adviser to Telok Blangah GROs Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade & Industry, and David was the goal keeper for this kick-off.

David played in several matches, and played well.

Joseph was too young, but he did get to play in 1 match, and got to meet the ASEAN Games mascot.

This is the team photo:

And another photo with one other team (taken by the event organisers).

Having played in the sun from 8:30am to 12:00pm, the boys were spent.

We got to church after the event, picked Esther at 12.30pm and went for lunch at Thai Express.

Rain returned, soccer goal-posts, dinner at Teahouse

Rain returned to Singapore on Sunday, heavy at Redhill from 11:00am to 3:00pm. With the end of the rain at 3:00pm, we went for soccer training at West Coast Park, and Ben brought 2 goal-posts borrowed from PA. These are inflatable posts and rather sturdy. While it rained, the ground wasn’t muddy as the water was soaked into the parched earth immediately. We ended early as the rain restarted with very dark clouds.

After soccer, we met up with YowCH’s parents, Yan and Loon again for dinner, this time Chinese food at Tunglok Teahouse at China Square.

The food was great, and particular mention to a nice dessert, which is yam-sticks coated with sugar-icing.

We have also updated our family icon photo on the upper-right of this page.

Very hot and dry soccer

Last weekend was terribly hot and dry, having no rain in Singapore for over 1 month! The Joseph near the middle and David at the right.

And here are the boys with the participation medals from last week’s PA event at Jalan Besar.

Joseph learning to cycle and soccer tournament

YowCH started training Joseph in his cycling after a few months of break, learning to balance now:

Here is our favourite “O” at Block 38:

We got some new pets from Ezra, mealworms and beetles.

On Sunday, West Coast Junior Team participated in the People’s Association Soccer Carnival at Jalan Besar, starting at 8:00am (we arrived slightly late at 8:15am):

This is the younger team:

David played well (goalkeeper and striker):

Joseph was on defence:

YowCH was coaching the younger team:

This is the team photo (many could not attend the Sunday morning event):

The carnival ends at 2:30pm, but we left early to attend swimming class at 12:15 at Delta.

Updated 03 March 2014: Participation medals for the boys.

Happy New Year

Greetings of a happy and blessed new year ahead from the Yow minions.
