Violin for Joseph

With Esther on piano and guitar, David on drums, we started thinking about Joseph on the violin. So we got a 2nd-hand Synwin 1/2-size violin for him to start off, then send him off for lessons. The violin is only $40, good conditions but one string is broken (easily replaced).

With some very basic instructions from YowCH (who has no training in violin), Joseph is able to play the instrument without the screeching sounds within the first few minutes. We are off to a good start!

South-west junior soccer league – game 1

Today, the boys played in the first game of the Junior League. Here is the team, all in the uniform!

This is the new jersey in detail. The West Coast Wolves name and logo were YowCH’s ideas.

West Cost Wolves are the hosts for this round, and we played at Kent Ridge Secondary School. YowCH was in charge of crowd control and first-aid. The weather was very hot!

Here is YowCH washing his hands after treating a case of a player having bleeding nose after being knocked on the face. The inset of the photo shows the red bag, which YowCH painted the White Cross and wrote FIRST-AID. YowCH treated 4 cases (kicked at the shin, kicked at the ankle, spectacles pad-arm pushed into nose bridge skin, and bleeding nose).

Here are some photos of David.

David sprained his left wrist, and therefore in bandage with splint (the splint is a wrist-guard for in-line skates).
And some of Joseph.

Joseph scored one goal, even when he is playing the under-9 age group (he should be playing under-7, but there wasn’t enough players for under-9).

Both David and Joseph did well this Sunday!

Tomorrow is Malaysia’s anniversary of Merdeka! May God bless Malaysia with leaders who are clean (bersih).

Mid-August weekend

On Saturday, after sending Esther to Church for worship leading practice (she plays the guitar), YowCH took the boys to West Coast park for playground fun:

That’s the boys resting on the bouncy wave bridge.

Samuel gets zip-line with David’s help.

David climbed the high tower.

And Joseph climbed the smaller one.

We met Oliver there, with Anya and Timothy. Kelly brought Sarah along for shopping.

At home on Sunday, after the usual swim, football and ballet, Esther practiced piano for upcoming exam.

SG50 Lego, Joseph as page-boy again

Last week, before the Singapore 50th National Day, our school-going children each received one set of the SG50 Lego set. There are three possible designs (although only enough parts to build one at a time) within each box. With 3 children, we got three sets and we can pose for this photo.

Today is the wedding day of Saw and Grace (church friends). Joseph served as the page-boy, leading the procession with the Bible.

Joseph did very well, and walked-in very nicely.

Weekend update

On Tuesday night, Joseph skipped Chinese class to attend Grace Hnin’s (church staff) wedding rehearsal. He is the page boy responsible to bring in the Bible. The second page boy carries the ring.

David went for Chinese class while the rest of the family helped with the rehearsal.

On Sunday morning, YowCH ran 4.0km in 23’50″, just to keep up the running practice. Then we went swimming. The children had great fun in the shallow pool (0.9m) before lessons:

In the mean time, Grace did her regular 10 laps (500m).

Then, after the exercise swims, YowCH and Grace took Samuel to the baby pool to play while the older children had their lessons.

In the afternoon, the boys had soccer. David played a friendly match against ACS Barker Road. Joseph had regular training conducted by YowCH.

For dinner, we had Taiwanese style beef noodles at Le Niu (樂牛), Vivocity. This mid-priced ‘fast-food’ is under the Paradise group.

After dinner, we went shopping for some gloves and long sleeve T-shirts for our upcoming trip.

Joseph on Sunday Times

Sunday Times 12 July 2015, Sports section featured the Borussia Dortmund football clinic at People’s Association HQ held on 11 July 2015. The photo has Joseph right in the middle!

The online Sunday Times here.

This morning, Esther ran 2.7km, with YowCH who ran 3.5km. Just a little exercise.

Soccer clinic with Borussia Dortmund at PA HQ

David and Joseph joined a group of 25 from West Coast CSC in attending the football clinic at PA HQ today, conducted by German team Borussia Dortmund coaches under the sponsorship of Evonik. We started the session at 9.00am.

The children were given BVB training jersey, shorts and socks.

It was a fun event, but the training was real.

Above is Lars Ricken (retired BVB striker and Germany national player) signing David’s T-shirt. Samuel had lots of fun running about.

The bee is the mascot, Emma. Esther was very helpful in looking after Samuel and taking care of our stuff.

The Evonik manager gave medals and Lars gave certs to the children.

A Q&A session, and we ended at 11.15am.

Each player received lots of BVB freebies: jersey, shorts, socks, Puma training ball, water bottle, medal, cert and sunshades.

Thank God for the good weather.

Soccer training, Esther Birthday dinner with family

Sunday afternoon, Joseph and David were at training again, and they played very hard in the hot sun!

Then, we had dinner at Cedele (GWC) with Gene and parents to celebrate Esther’s birthday.

Esther was busy taking photos of the food.

Here’s the birthday cake she got, a sea-salt caramel cheesecake.

And Samuel was also happily enjoying the dinner, eating mostly by himself.

Weekend – Soccer games, Samuel, 2nd hand boots, box, paper-drum, holiday program

This weekend is the start of the June holidays. On Sunday morning, Joseph played soccer at Yusuf Ishak Sec Sch in the Under-7 team (the Under-9 team was also playing). David helped manage the U-7 team, and Esther was helpful in bringing Samuel about. There were 8 teams of U-7 and U-9.

While Joseph was playing, YowCH went swimming at Jurong East Swimming Complex with Esther and David. Samuel was asleep, so Grace looked after the small boy. After the swim, we returned to Joseph’s games, for the closing ceremony. Madam Halimah Yacob, MP for Bukit Batok, gave way the participation medals.

Later in the afternoon, Esther went to ballet class, and David played in a friendly match with BB East and Ulu Pandan at Queenstown Pri Sch. Joseph helped with the warm-ups and cheered for the Under-12 team.

A very tiring weekend. Thankfully, Monday is a public holiday, Vesak Day.

Here’s Samuel at KKH garden, after lunch:

With Grace at work with afternoon duties, YowCH picked up some 2nd-hand items which Grace have arranged for:
1. 1 pair of Timberland hiking boots for the children. The other two pairs were picked up some time last week.

2. 1 toy carry-box, Playmobil, for Samuel:

3. 1 Paper Jamz ultra-thin finger drum pad.

The pad has outlet, and sounds great when patched to our 40W amp! The built-in speakers are good enough for Samuel.

Lastly, here’s a look at our program for June 2015 (prepared by the children). We are fully booked!

Eco-park, guitar & drums, soccer

Last Sunday, we spent the morning at Rumah Tinggi Eco Park before our swim.

Samuel really loves to climb!

Up on the hill, it looks like some holiday scene!

Pillar hugging at the multi-purpose porch.

Back at home, Esther and David played the guitar and drums together, sounds good.

We managed to sell the acoustic drum set, at $200 which gives us $20 to cover the transportation expenses. Worthwhile for the short time we played the drums.

In the afternoon, the boys went for soccer training as usual, at Tanglin Secondary School.
