Ukuleles for Church Children’s Day

The Bible Church, Singapore celebrated Children’s Day on Sunday 3 Oct 2010 with a fun event from 8:30am to 12:00 noon. We have games, worship, more games, a message through a skit and snacks.

Stanley was the worship leader, and for musicians, YowCH and Esther joined his son, Daniel forming a small ukulele band. We played 5 songs!

KRSS Boys Brigade outdoor cooking

YowCH conducted a session of Outdoor cooking for the Kent Ridge Secondary School Boys Brigade on 28 Aug 2010. There was a briefing last week where the menu and technique was discussed.

The menu is simple, instant noodles in a soup made with minced meat, fish-balls and cabbages, and a side dish of eggs and sardines.

Here’s a photo at the start:

That’s our stove and pot of eggs and sardines:

Esther and David was very helpful in getting the stuff in place for the cooking.
Some of the boys moved on to boiling the soup already.

The photo of the day, burning oil!

The cooking was quite serious for some:

Here’s Esther, David and YowCH eating the food:

We started at about 10:30am and ended at about 12:15pm.

YowCH’s parents visit, fan, shelves

Over the long weekend (Singapore national day is on 9 Aug, Monday), YowCH’s parents, together with sister Loon and her boyfriend Daren, came over for a few days from Saturday to Wednesday. YowCH and Grace took leave on Tuesday and Wednesday (but Grace worked on Saturday) to spend time with them, and to get some household things done.

Here, we were at Don (opposite Far East Square) eating crab noodles and pies with Yan and family, too.

Among the household things done were the new wall mounted fan for Room 2 (blows onto all three beds!) and two new bookshelves in Room 3 put together with shelving planks salvaged from Grace’s workplace, they are very solid plywood.

Esther is also able to play about 10 chords on the ukulele after about 10 days. She’s learning very fast. David is also keen to start now.

TYLin Pulau Ubin morning cycling

Today, we spent the morning at Pulau Ubin under TYLin’s Staff Club activity. Grace was at work, and Joseph with in school, but dad joined us. As Esther and David are not yet cycling, they were carried on childseats.

Esther took a photo of YowCH:

We left earlier than than the rest as we have some afternoon activities.

Thank God for a very cool and shady morning.

9th Anniversary

YowCH and Grace was married nine years ago on 16 Dec 2000. Today, we had an anniversary dinner at Prego, Raffles City with the children, mum, dad and Gene.

We had a free cake for being a member of the hotel chain.

Here’s a link back to our wedding site.

One week into driving

It has been one week of driving the Isis, and we have clocked 200km now! There is a great change in lifestyle with driving and we are still adapting to it.

YowCH is getting some back-aches as he feels tense. Driving again after 17 years is quite a strange experience. The car is nicely powered, but the body is rather long and bulky. Hard to park and make U-turns at tight junctions.

New PDA phone for YowCH

With the 2.5-year-old Palm Tungsten E2 dying (the screen turns white on, and not sensitive to touch), YowCH got a new PDA phone , as his phone contract had just reached 21 months. The HTC Touch Cruise is new and pretty:

The included car kit and GPS is most useful for the upcoming wheels, to be collected this Thursday evening (9 April 2009), as promised by Ricardo.

YowCH passed driving test

Woohoo, YowCH passed the Basic Theory Test today at Bukit Batok Driving Centre and converted the Malaysian driving license to a Singapore driving license.

Now waiting for COE next week to get the Isis.

YowCH’s crown

The saga started at least four months ago, end-Nov 2008, when YowCH felt some tinkling pain in the last tooth, lower jaw, right side. It got to the ‘needle poke every few minutes’ from 22 Feb 09. Suddenly, on 7 Mar 09 at about 10pm, it became a ‘bunch of needles stabbing every second’. YowCH couldn’t sleep and cold water sent a shocking permanent pain throughout the night.

8 Mar 09, Guan Huat, church friend and dentist, opened his clinic for emergency treatment and three root canals were drilled to relieve the pain. Come Monday, when the clinic assistant was available, the treament was completed. But there was still a little pain during the appointment to complete the root canal and prepare for crowning on 13 Mar 09, it was discovered that one of the canals actually splited into two! More work done, and the crown prepared.

Finally on 19 Mar 09, a metal crown was placed over the tooth.

Another update on the Isis, tinting completed.

Hiking at Macritchie again

Today, we had great fun hiking at Macritchie with YowCH, Grace’s dad, and Oliver bringing 6 children for a moderately difficult 7km hike, and up Jelutong Tower. The 45 photos can be seen here. We covered the distance with rest stops and a picnic in 4.5 hours.

Thank God for the good weather, the well-behaved children and the wonderful fellowship we had.

And a few days back, Joseph was sitting pretty well on the sofa:
