Church Junior Camp Cook-out, Lego Shell-Ferrari

On Sunday evening, 18 Nov, YowCH conducted the Cook-out session for Church Junior Camp (16 to 19 Nov), which is the Sunday Dinner for those staying overnight (Primary 4 and 5 children). The menu was Mothballs Earthworms and Garden Mess. Actually, they are fishball/meatball noodles and mixed vege with pork and eggs.

The children with some help and guidance from youths and young adults, cooked their own meals in mess-tins and most of them produced very tasty food.

Esther specialised in frying eggs with vege and pork, very tasty.

David did not cook (he is not yet Primary 4) but he was really helpful.

Grace helped with the session and so did Joseph.

We all had a great time at church for this cook-out and it is now strongly suggested for future junior camps.

Oh, we managed to collect all 7 packs of the Shell-Ferrari Lego special limited edition sets (1 truck, 5 cars and 1 set of minifigs):

Big thanks to Grace’s colleague who pumps Shell for getting the cars and to Grace’s parents who got us the set of minifigs.

YowCH’s new HTC phone with Beats headphones

After workng very hard for the past 21 months, YowCH’s HTC Desire now suffers from a failing vibrator and is too small on the memory (sluggish running of programs). With a recontract with Singtel, and searching for a not-too-large and not-too-expensive phone, he settled at the recently released HTC Desire X at $18.00 with 24 months contract (street price is $350.00), bought online and delivered to TYLin office. In addition, he paid an additional $68.00 for a piece of Beats Solo headphones (street price about $200.00), collected at Oro, the distributor.

Still using Android (now ver 4.0. Ice Cream Soda), data and software transfer was successfully carried out in a few hours, much easier than the previous transfer from Window Mobile to Android.

And yes, the phone is white. The alternate colour in Singapore is dark blue, which looks quite bad, actually. Overseas seems to have black.

Golf for Esther and David

Esther and David had a round of golf at the Marina Bay Driving Range with YowCH this evening. Tomorrow is Deepavali holiday and school holidays are starting, so we will try to give them some time to learn golf.

These next two photos are screen captures from videos, showing that both Esther and David can hit the ball and make it fly.

More in-line skates, children golf and ukuleles

With Esther and David doing well on the in-line skates, we gave Joseph his birthday present in advance – his own pair of in-line skates. You can certainly see his joy.

Well, YowCH and Grace got a pair each too, and here you see us practising. Grace has never been on skates, and YowCH only played around a little about 10-plus years ago.

YowCH saw a good deal on a set of junior golf clubs ($99) and picked it up for them to try out. Consists of 1 driver, 2 irons and 1 putter, all in a bag. Looks like Esther and David can join YowCH in the driving range.

Meanwhile, Grace ordered and picked up 3 more ukuleles, rather fruity ones, from Groupon at about $28 each. From left to right – YowCH’s, ‘glitter’, ‘kiwi’, ‘watermelon’ and our first. The new ones are very colourful. They will be used to start off church juniors (7 to 11) on ukulele-playing.

Cycling, soccer match and golf

On Saturday, 6 Oct, while Grace was at work on afternoon shift, we went cycling at the MOE carpark near our house. Esther and David practiced cycling with one hand, weaving in-and-out and making very tight turns at high speed. YowCH practiced jumping the kerb.

On Sunday, David played futsal soccer competition at Hougang from 8:00am to 2:00pm. The rest of us attended church for Children’s Day event, then went to the stadium to join David. The Lims brought him to Hougang after he spent a night at their place.

Trophies were given to every child as encouragement, but the truth is, the Jaguars did not do well.

Today, 8 Oct, YowCH went to Marina Bay driving range with his colleagues to practice golf swings. This is the second round, the first was last Tuesday.

Grace’s colleagues gathering, golf set, David’s soccer friendly match, F1

Yesterday, Saturday 22 Sept, Grace’s colleagues had a gathering at our home. Everyone brought some food and we had a great time chatting with friends.

This morning, Francis Loo passed an extra set of golf clubs to YowCH for training. While the clubs are of different brands, the set is very much complete with 16 very useful clubs, 1 bag, some balls and even a pair gloves and an umbrella.

In the afternoon, we went for David’s soccer friendly match against several other junior clubs. David is currently down with cough and fever, and played only a very short wile before retiring.

And at night, we watched the Singapore Formula One race on the big screen again.

Bicycle full-face helmets

The helmets (XS size) looks very large on the children’s heads, however, the fitting is nice and correct. They can hear, breathe and the helmets are not too heavy, good for off road!

You can see the ugly monster art on YowCH’s helmet (S size), probably that’s why this model is on clearance sale.

Joseph is not having a full-face helmet, he was just trying on, and way too large and loose for him.

Hiking at Macritchie

We hiked at Macritchie this morning while Grace was at work, covering 6.5km.

Temaseans 20 year reunion

YowCH’s first group of friends in Singapore, mostly fellow ASEAN scholars from Malaysia in Temasek Junior College (called Temaseans), celebrated 20 years of arrival on 16 June 2012 at One Rochester. We had a great time looking through old memories and sharing about our 20 years in Singapore. 17 of us turned up, very good attendance for a group of about 25 people after 20 years.

We were most honoured to have our guardian teacher, Ms Tan, joining us in this joyous occasion (the pretty lady 2nd from right).

Space Marine Terminator painted

After a long break of more than 6 months, YowCH spent the afternoon painting the Space Marine Terminator sergeant while doing the time consuming digital photos back-up on the computer.
