Samuels’ wings, foam sheet and shark for swim, Takamine 12-string guitar

Here’s Samuel with his wings. Inspired after watching Falcon in action in the movie Captain America: Winter Soldier, David and YowCH built this for him.

We got ourselves some 2nd hand foam sheets to enjoy in the Sorrento pool. Most other people use these for yoga or children play area. These are good one-inch thick ones, most are only half-inch.

We also got ourselves another inflatable ride to accompany the Crocodile, a new Shark.

Grace found a used Takamine EG531SSC 12-string guitar on Carousel for sale at $800.00. We bargained down to $700, and picked up the good buy on the night of 24 Oct 2016 (Monday).

The fret-board was good, the pick-up working well and comes in a nice padded (furry) case. The strings are rather rusty and one G-string was missing, but we need to re-string the guitar anyway. Bright and sharp sounds typical of a Takamine, with nice reverbs. But the 12-string needs harder strength to play and Esther may not be playing this until much later.

This 12-string is most probably the last guitar to add to our line-up.

YowCH’s resignation gifts to staff, Odyssey first carwash

YowCH had prepared in advance since August a stack of books as resignation gift to his staff. The book is a nice engineering reading, To Engineer is Human, by Henry Petroski.

We sent the Odyssey to the carwash for the first time on 6 August 2016 (previously only washed by Kah Motors during the 1st servicing).

YowCH is a good driver

Automobile Association of Singapore conducted an online test and YowCH took it, scoring very high, hence a good driver, earning an extra year of membership for free.

YowCH’s T.Y.Lin farewell dinner

On 29 Sept, YowCH colleagues threw a farewell dinner for him and 3 others collegaues (Kenneth, Yiwei and Fidelino) at Indochili, Zion Road. Nice fellowship and great taasting Indonesian food. Grace and Samuel was also at the dinner.

YowCH resigned from TYLin

After working in TYLin for more than 18 years (started 1 June 1998) YowCH resigned yesterday, Friday, 29 July 2016. Time to move out and venture into some other firm. He has already accepted an offer with significantly better renumeration and work environment.

There will be 3 months of transition, and we are praying for the transit to be smooth and problems-free.

YowCH’s Galaxy S7, Samuel’s bean sprouts

Re-contracting at about 10 months since the HTC One M8, YowCH ordered a new phone on 18 July and it was delivered to by 19 July. The Samsung Galaxy S7 (non-edge) came with a free Samsung Gear VR for $288.00, where the street price is $785. The phone is glass on both front and back, and black in colour. YowCH bought a jelly case, also black, which fits well and looks great. This is the first non-HTC smart phone that YowCH is using since Nokia days. The QuadHD screen is nicely bright and has great contrast. Being waterproof, the camera can take underwater photos and videos up to 1m depth. It is about the same size as the HTC One M8.

The set unboxed:

And the Gear VR:

Samuel brought home his bean sprouts, and they are growing very well!

Dinner at Crab in Da Bag

As celebration of Mothers’ Day, and YowCH’s birthday, Gene treated us to a nice and messy dinner at Crab in Da Bag, at Sportshub.

Just outside, here’s YowCH and Grace:

We were all ready with the bibs, right after ordering.

Some pasta, chicken wings and tiger prawns in salted egg cream:

It was messy but fun to eat on the table.

The main course, the Titanic Bucket of shellfish. There were crabs, prawns, slipper lobsters, crayfishes, yabbies, a lobster, mussels, clams, sausages, onions, potatoes and corn. All that cooked in Louisiana soup and spilled on the table.

Messy eating:

We finished everything!

And complimentary jelly on honey dew dessert for us (the restaurant owner is YowCH’s friend).

Swim, run, Joseph on ukulele

We had pool fun again:

YowCH still runs sporadically, this is run at West Coast:

YowCH and Samuel took a walk in the Jalan Rumah Tinggi Park to measure the length, we walked average speed of 3.3km/h on the 430m track.

Joseph started playing the ukulele properly, and now he can manage about 10-15 common chords, good enough to play songs like I’m Yours, As The Deer and When You Say Nothing At All.

Here are Esther and David chilling in the Sorrento pool after church.

And Samuel chilling at our flat level 1:

Samuel also had some time at the playground at Kim Tian while waiting to pick Esther from tuition.

Weekend updates

After church on Saturday, we had dinner with Grace’s parents at Old Street Bak Kut Teh at ARC (Alexandra Retail Centre). The food is costly, but tasty. Grace had her favourite tea, Small Bitter-sweet Moon (小月甘) which is previously called Xiao Ye Gan (小叶甘). Too bad the furniture design of this brand of Bak Kut Teh is not very good as the iPad for ordering is stuck to only one side of the table.

Samuel was asked to work with parents to build a guitar for craft. We assigned siblings Esther and David instead.

The shoebox guitar can actually make sounds.

YowCH wanted to get back into sports-mode after the 4 weeks of travelling and eating for TYLin KL Annual Dinner, TYL Chongqing Annual Dinner and CNY holidays and feasts. On Sunday, at the swimming class, he swam 500m in 15 minutes, then in the afternoon, while the boys trained soccer, he ran 1.5km (short run only, very hot day) in 8’40″.

David’s fracture and YowCH’s TYLin China dinner at CQ

David had a fracture in his right hand middle finger when he played basketball on Friday 29 Jan.

He will be out of action for basketball for 2 weeks and will miss some of his league games.

In the mean time, YowCH is away in Chongqing China for TYLin China office annual dinner from 28-31 Jan. Click on the photos below for the page:
