New Year Spoiler

Not what you are thinking.

We bought a second-hand spoiler from a Singapore Toyota Club forum member for the Isis on 31 Dec 2009 and installed it today (2 Jan 2010). Improves the back-end view of the car and provides a tiny little shade to the rear windscreen, helpful for the noon-day glare.

We decided that the matt black by the previous owner seems quite a contrast yet nicely compatible with the rest of the plastic parts, so we keep it this way for now. If there is any reason to spray any other parts of the car (and we pray not!) we will probably get this sprayed silver, too.

Currently not so permanently mounted with 3M car exterior mounting tape; the official way to mount this is to drill holes into the car to screw it on!

Today is also the last of Esther’s and David’s 18 sessions of swimming lessons. Esther can now swim without float for short distances in a beginner’s breast-stroke (3 kicks, 1 pull, breathe), and David is perhaps 2 days from that.

Esther and David’s Advent Lego sets

We bought the Advent Lego sets, City for Esther and Pirates for David, and they opened each of the the 24 individual windows from 1 Dec to 24 Dec, one a day (except the days they were not home). Each window contained a figure for assembly and play, and on the 24 DEc, they had the whole sets completed:

They had good discipline to open one at a time (never rushing to open the next) and also patiently waiting for the surprise item in the next window.

Joseph’s 1st swim, trip to Pontian

On 30 Nov morning, we brought Joseph to Delta Swimming Complex for a swim. Esther and David were having swimming lessons there at 9:00am. With our new underwater casing for the F200 camera, here are some photos:

After the swim, we had a fast breakfast at Moh Guan with Grace’s parents, then left for Pontian for a short 2-day holiday.

Esther and David swimming lessons

Esther and David started taking swimming lessons, being the school holidays now. The teacher is Jeffrey from Happy Fish and the lessons are conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:00am to 10:00am at Delta Swimming Complex (near our home, just a very short bus ride away).

Joseph (and family) had dinner with Yan and PQ at Lao Beijing, Novena Square for his 1st birthday. He’s happily holding on to the red-pack that he received as present.

We’ll be going back to Pontian coming Monday and Tuesday to visit Grace’s grandma, together with Grace’s parents. Before that, on Monday morning, Joseph will join E&D for a swim.

Joseph starting to cruise

Joseph is now starting to cruise. He can readily pull himself to a standing position and starts to ‘walk’ while clinging onto a support. His meals has diversified to include chicken, fish, potatoes and he is as smiley as before.

Esther is doing well in school, but always a little too little sleep. David has started speaking in Mandarin and Cantonese, which is a good sign. He is also starting to read words.

24 July 2009: We add a photo taken on 23 July 2009 here:

Joseph sitting up and weekend car washing

Nothing much to update, but just within this past week, Joseph started sitting up by himself and creeping on the ground. Won’t be long before he really crawls and nothing on the floor will be safe from him.

We have moved the play-pen out of our room as he grew too big for it, and now the baby cot is in our room.

Earlier on, on Saturday afternoon 13 June, Esther and David was most helpful in cleaning the car. They each cleaned two rims. Esther cleaned the insides with the vacuum cleaner and David helped YowCH in the windows cleaning.

We’ll be heading North again to PJ this coming Friday for the weekend.

Esther is seven

Yesterday was Esther’s seventh birthday, and that’s a seven-year-old girl:

We didn’t buy a cake, but we had Sakae Sushi the day before with grandparents and ah yee, and Fish ‘n’ Co yesterday with kookoo and koojiong.

We are now looking forward to yet another trip to PJ at the end of the month, over the weekend for Grace’s cousin’s wedding.

Joseph’s growing big, Esther’s doing OK at school

Joseph turned 5 months old on 24 April, a few days ago. He can now flip himself front-to-back and back-to-front on bed. He can also belly crawl to get to things that he wants. Above all, he is now more than 7kg, making him almost 2kg heavier than Esther and David when they were 5 months old.

Still smiling and bubbly as ever, Joseph normally cries only for food, when he is too hot lying down or when left alone. All he needs is someone to chit chat with, and he’ll be smiling and laughing.

Esther is doing pretty OK in school, mixing well with her friends, and doing well in her school work. She is very happy with the car fetching her to and from school. Esther is also getting comfortable speaking in Cantonese, and noted even a classmate who speaks in Cantonese with her.

The family will be spending one day in Malacca on 16 May 2009, TYLin Family Day.

Hiking at Macritchie again

Today, we had great fun hiking at Macritchie with YowCH, Grace’s dad, and Oliver bringing 6 children for a moderately difficult 7km hike, and up Jelutong Tower. The 45 photos can be seen here. We covered the distance with rest stops and a picnic in 4.5 hours.

Thank God for the good weather, the well-behaved children and the wonderful fellowship we had.

And a few days back, Joseph was sitting pretty well on the sofa:
